Episodic memory refers to memory for specific episodes from one’s life, such as working in the garden yesterday afternoon while enjoying the warm sun and chirping birds. In the laboratory, the study of episodic memory has been dominated by two tasks: single item recognition and recall. In single item recognition, participants are simply presented a cue

Semantic and episodic memory in aphasia
Neuropsychologia, 1996Within the framework of the distinction between episodic and semantic memory, it has been argued that these two memory Systems are organised in a hierarchical way. The hierarchical hypothesis assumes that episodic memory is a specific subsystem of semantic memory and therefore implies that episodic memory cannot exist without semantic memory.

The neuroscience of spatial memory is one of the most promising areas for developing biomimetic solutions to complex engineering challenges. Grid cells are neurons recorded in the medial entorhinal cortex that fire when rats are in an array of locations in the environment falling on the vertices of tightly packed equilateral triangles.

A Test of Episodic Visual Memory
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1993This study investigated the relationship between episodic visual memory and word recognition using a novel test of episodic visual memory. 40 subjects learned a set of pseudo-orthographic stimuli which were processed in terms of visual form and structure information during study.
