Influence of mid-stress on the dynamic fatigue of a light weight EPS bead foam [PDF]

open access: yese-Polymers, 2019
AbstractExpandable Polystyrene (EPS) is one of the most commonly used material, when it comes to protect thermal sensitive goods, since the thermal conductivity of EPS is very low. The mechanical properties in terms of long-term compression or quasi-static compression are also quite well known.

Molecular Engineering Mediated Interfacial Assembly as an Artificial Extracellular Matrix Remolds Bacteria With Enhanced Abiotic Resilience

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biomimetic artificial extracellular matrix is assembled directly on Pseudomonas fluorescens by co‐assembling amyloid‐like lysozyme and alginate at the cell surface. This conformal nanocoating acts as both a hydration buffer and a physiological priming layer, markedly enhancing desiccation tolerance, seed adhesion, storage stability, and biocontrol ...

Study of the internal temperature of rigid polyurethane bodies using temperature sensors

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
This paper investigates the effect of filling polystyrene foam beads (EPS) on the foaming temperature regulation of rigid polyurethane (RPUF) composites and describes the temperature change process of the first 400 s of the foaming reaction for two ...

Microblasting Wound Dressings Mechanically Disrupt Polymicrobial Biofilms to Enhance Healing in Treatment‐Resistant Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Treatment‐resistant wounds caused by polymicrobial biofilms are refractory to conventional therapies due to the dense extracellular matrices. We developed μBLAST, a microblasting wound dressing that combines MnO2‐doped biosilica and a H2O2‐releasing mesh to generate localized oxygen microbubbles that mechanically disrupt biofilms.

Effect of cement and EPS beads ratios on compressive strength and density of lightweight concrete

open access: yes, 2007
The compressive strengths and slump values of concretes made up of mixtures of expanded polystyrene (EPS) beads and cement were investigated. To determine the effect of Portland cement (PC)/EPS ratio, on the compressive strength of EPS concrete, 1/0 ...

Multiferroic‐Centric Materials and Systems Engineering for Battery Applications: An Insight Into Mechanisms, Strategies, and Characterizations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multiferroic order parameters – polarization, magnetization, and ferroelastic strain – are positioned as dynamic design variables for batteries. Their mechanistic roles, practical tuning through fabrication and external fields, and ferroic‐resolved characterization routes are unified into a closed‐loop framework, revealing how coupled ferroic responses

Inside‐Outside ROS Therapeutic Strategy Based on Piezoelectric Nano‐Urchin for Drug‐Resistant Bacteria Biofilm Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The contribution of this study lies not only in enabling effective treatment of drug‐resistant biofilm infections, but also in establishing a transferable therapeutic paradigm: Ultrasound‐triggered mechanical forces synergistically enhance piezoelectric polarization and nanozyme activity, driving functional ROS generation inside and outside biofilms ...
