Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Partial and complete equality-of-opportunity orderings [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper proposes a partial equality-of-opportunity ordering based on the inequality-of-opportunity curve, a mechanism that gives preference to those who are worse in terms of opportunity.

On Kalman Filtering with Nonlinear Equality Constraints

open access: yes, 2007
The state space description of some physical systems possess nonlinear equality constraints between some state variables. In this paper, we consider the problem of applying a Kalman filter-type estimator in the presence of such constraints. We categorize

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Capabilities and Equality of Health II: Capabilities as Options [PDF]

open access: yes
The concept of capabilities, introduced originally by Sen, has inspired many researchers but has not found any simple formal representation which might be instrumental in the construction of a comprehensive theory of equality.

Similarity of Overlap Functions and Robustness of Fuzzy Reasoning

open access: yesAxioms
The overlap function has been extensively utilized across various fields. In this paper, we introduce the concepts of the similarity and δ-equality of overlap functions to measure the degree of similarity between two overlap functions.
