Modeling the Detectability of Energetic Heliospheric Ions at Pluto During the New Horizons Flyby
Abstract We investigate the detectability of heliospheric helium ions at energies up to 100 keV by the New Horizons (NH) spacecraft during its flyby through Pluto's induced magnetosphere. The Pluto Energetic Particle Spectrometer Science Investigation energetic ion detector observed a reduction in their flux by an order of magnitude as the spacecraft ...

Generation of large-scale equatorial F-region plasma depletions during lowrange spread-F season [PDF]
All-sky imaging observations of the F-region OI 630nm nightglow emission allow us to visualize large-scale equatorial plasma depletions, generally known as trans-equatorial plasma bubbles. Strong range type spread-F is the radio signature of these

Simulations of secondary Farley-Buneman instability driven by a kilometer-scale primary wave: anomalous transport and formation of flat-topped electric fields [PDF]
Since the 1950s, high frequency and very high frequency radars near the magnetic equator have frequently detected strong echoes caused ultimately by the Farley‐Buneman instability (FBI) and the gradient drift instability (GDI).

Equatorial anomaly in the Jovian ionosphere
The electron concentration data from Pioneer 10 and 11 and Voyager 1 and 2 indicate the presence of equatorial anomaly in the Jovian ionosphere, with the peak electron concentration value showing a minimum near the equator.

Magnetic Signatures of a Plasma Wake Behind the Swarm Satellites
Abstract This study provides first observational evidence of a plasma wake behind ESA's Swarm satellites, manifesting itself by a brief magnetic field strength spike and bipolar field variations in transverse direction. These magnetic signatures occur only near the dip‐equator where the magnetic declination is close to zero.

Equatorial electrojet as part of the global circuit: a case-study from the IEEY [PDF]
Geomagnetic storm-time variations often occur coherently at high latitude and the day-side dip equator where they affect the normal eastward Sq field. This paper presents an analysis of ground magnetic field and ionospheric electrodynamic data related

Observations of Ion Density and Temperature around the International Space Station During two Geomagnetic Storms [PDF]
The International Space Station (ISS) is a low Earth orbit research facility and host to an international crew. Geomagnetic storms cause changes in the Earth’s magnetic field and affect the ion density and temperature in the ionosphere which could pose a

Abstract Based on 2‐year magnetic data from the Macau science satellite, we investigate the compressional Pc3‐4 pulsations (between 16 and 100 mHz) driven by upstream waves (UWs). Our results confirm larger UWs amplitudes in the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) longitudes, agreeing with previous missions.

Numerical modeling of the equatorial electrojet UT-variation on the basis of the model GSM TIP [PDF]
In the presented work the results of numerical modeling of the UT-variation of the equatorial electrojet, executed on the basis of the model GSM TIP are presented, taking into account the dynamo electric fields generated by thermospheric winds in a ...
