Laboratory Study on the Effect of an Artificial Sandbar on Nourished Beach Profile Evolution

International Journal of Offshore and Polar Engineering, 2022
In this study, a physical experiment is conducted in a wave flume to investigate the evolution process of a beach profile confronted by an artificial sandbar. Random waves with the JONSWAP spectrum are chosen to represent the storm wave condition.

On the Evolution of Beach Shoreline According to Equilibrium Profile

2022
<p>Shoreline position is a key parameter of a beach state, used as a descriptor of the system response to changes in external forcings, such as sea-level rise. Changes in shoreline position are the result of hydro- and morphodynamic processes taking place in the nearshore, including feedback mechanisms.

EQUILIBRIUM BEACH PROFILE FOR REFRACTION-DIFFRACTION AREAS

Coastal Dynamics 2005, 2006
A formulation to determine the equilibrium beach profile for refraction- diffraction areas is proposed. An analytical expression for the wave energy flux for refraction-diffraction areas is derived from the "mild slope equation". Assuming uniform wave energy dissipation per unit water volume, it is established that the total shape parameter for the ...

Relationship between Beach Morphodynamics and Equilibrium Profiles

Coastal Engineering 2000, 2001
In this paper a new beach equilibrium formulation, that treats the shoaling portion of the profile independently from that of the breaking portion, is proposed. The two portions are matched at the breaking point. The formulation considers wave reflection from the beach and the tidal variation of the sea level. Both profiles are represented by a similar

A parametric model for dry beach equilibrium profiles

Coastal Engineering, 2017
Abstract Predictions of dry beach morphologies are extensively required in coastal research for multiple purposes -e.g., dune erosion forecasting, inundation heights determination and beach fill design optimization. In this paper, we introduce and test a parametric model that describes the equilibrium shape of the dry beach in the cross-shore ...

Sediment transport and beach equilibrium profile

Coastal Engineering, 1985
Abstract A two-dimensional model of the equilibrium profile for the most dynamic and shallow-water part of a nearshore region, including the wave-breaking zone, has been developed. Bed sediment grains are supposed to be homogeneous according to their density and size, and bed-load sediment transport is onshore and suspended-load transport is offshore.

A parametric model for barred equilibrium beach profiles

Coastal Engineering, 2014
Abstract Environment predictions for locations for which bathymetric data is missing, poor or outdated requires the use of some sort of representative bathymetric form, usually one that is concave up but monotonic. We propose and test a parametric form that superimposes realistic sand bars (Ruessink et al., 2003b) on a background profile that mixes a

Equilibrium beach profiles: erosion and accretion balanced approach

Water and Environment Journal, 2017
AbstractEstimating the magnitude of profile scale factor is currently based on the assumption that beach profiles are in equilibrium condition. However, this assumption cannot be applied to all beach profiles. In this article, a boundary based profile scale factor is proposed that through a normalized coordinate system leads to a unique global profile ...

Unexpected Property of Dean-Type Equilibrium Beach Profiles

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 2021
Abstract It has been demonstrated that, for the majority of beach profiles with multiple bars, the only beach parameter that controls the total nearshore wave energy dissipation, which was obtained...
