Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Equilibrium mechanics of monolayered epithelium [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical Biology, 2009
In order to fully understand the epithelial mechanics it is essential to integrate different levels of epithelial organization. In this work, we propose a theoretical approach for connecting the macroscopic mechanical properties of a monolayered epithelium to the mechanical properties at the cellular level.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

A Cost-Optimized Resource Provisioning Policy for Heterogeneous Cloud Environments

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2017
To avoid the drawbacks of a pricing mechanism in heterogeneous cloud environments that considers only single resources, we propose a multi-resource combinatorial pricing mechanism in this paper.

Extreme Multistability and Its Incremental Integral Reconstruction in a Non-Autonomous Memcapacitive Oscillator

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
Extreme multistability has frequently been reported in autonomous circuits involving memory-circuit elements, since these circuits possess line/plane equilibrium sets. However, this special phenomenon has rarely been discovered in non-autonomous circuits.

Kinetics in Mg-based hydrogen storage materials: Enhancement and mechanism

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2019
Mg-based materials have been intensively studied for hydrogen storage applications due to their high energy density up to 2600 Wh/kg or 3700 Wh/L. However, the Mg-based materials with poor kinetics and the necessity for a high temperature to achieve 0.1 ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Reactive Oxygen Species, Oxidative Damage, and Antioxidative Defense Mechanism in Plants under Stressful Conditions

open access: yes, 2012
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced as a normal product of plant cellular metabolism. Various environmental stresses lead to excessive production of ROS causing progressive oxidative damage and ultimately cell death.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

On the Concept of Equilibrium in Sanctions and Countersanctions in a Differential Game

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
This paper develops the methodology for modeling decision processes in complex controlled dynamic systems. The idea of balancing such systems (driving them to equilibrium) is implemented, and a new mechanism for the equilibria’s stability is proposed ...
