Sorption Thermodynamics of CO2, H2O, and CH3OH in a Glassy Polyetherimide: A Molecular Perspective

open access: yesMembranes, 2019
In this paper, the sorption thermodynamics of low-molecular-weight penetrants in a glassy polyetherimide, endowed with specific interactions, is addressed by combining an experimental approach based on vibrational spectroscopy with thermodynamics ...

Investigation of Iron‐Aluminide‐Like Phase Composition in Complex Concentrated Fe32Cu12Ni11Ti16Al29 Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work reveals the phase composition and quantitative morphology analysis of precipitation‐hardened Fe32Cu12Ni11Ti16Al29 complex‐concentrated alloy. The precipitates are shown to have a high coherency. Morphology transition between sphere, cuboidal, and elongated morphology is observed. Finally, the overaging behavior is captured using microhardness.

Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics of Spacetime

open access: yes, 2006
It has previously been shown that the Einstein equation can be derived from the requirement that the Clausius relation dS = dQ/T hold for all local acceleration horizons through each spacetime point, where dS is one quarter the horizon area change in ...

Stochastic approach to equilibrium and nonequilibrium thermodynamics. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical review. E, Statistical, nonlinear, and soft matter physics, 2015
We develop the stochastic approach to thermodynamics based on stochastic dynamics, which can be discrete (master equation) and continuous (Fokker-Planck equation), and on two assumptions concerning entropy.

Investigation of Oxide Dispersion Strengthening Effect on the Strength of Diffusion‐Bonded AISI304 Parts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments for reinforcing the diffusion bonding plane by the oxide dispersion strengthening effect are presented. Small ceramic particles (0.5 and 50 μm, respectively) are incorporated. Furthermore, ceramic particles help to penetrate stable passivation layers, enabling atomic diffusion across bonding planes. Since a ceramic–metallic interface cannot

The equilibrium of neural firing: A mathematical theory

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2014
Inspired by statistical thermodynamics, we presume that neuron system has equilibrium condition with respect to neural firing. We show that, even with dynamically changeable neural connections, it is inevitable for neural firing to evolve to equilibrium.

Reactive Interaction and Wetting of Fe‐ and Mn‐Containing, Secondary AlSi Alloys with Manganese Oxide Ceramic Filter Material for Fe Removal

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Fe‐ and Mn‐containing AlSi alloys undergo aluminothermic reaction with Mn oxide in sessile‐drop and crucible experiments forming poor‐wetting Al2O3 while Mn enriches in the alloy. Primary Fe‐containing particles are preferentially attached to the Mn oxide.

Strong coupling thermodynamics and stochastic thermodynamics from the unifying perspective of time-scale separation

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2022
Assuming time-scale separation, a simple and unified theory of thermodynamics and stochastic thermodynamics is constructed for small classical systems strongly interacting with their environments in a controllable fashion.

Non-equilibrium theories of rarefied gases: internal variables and extended thermodynamics

open access: yesContinuum Mechanics and Thermodynamics, 2018
Limits of classical constitutive laws such as Fourier and Navier–Stokes equations are discovered since decades. However, the proper extensions—generalizations of these—are not unique.

Impact of Hot Isostatic Pressing on Microstructure Evolution and Creep Performance of Powder Bed Fusion–Laser Beam Processed CM247LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) temperature on the microstructure and creep performance of powder bed fusion–laser beam processed CM247LC superalloy is investigated. Grain growth and γ’ precipitate evolution are characterized following HIP at varying temperatures.
