Failure analysis of a safety equipment exposed to EAF environment

Abstract The aim of this work was to determine the causes of failure of a safety system for the inspection of a crane used to load an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). This system is composed of an assembly of cords and tensioners where the technicians are hooked in order to perform the crane system maintenance in safety conditions.

Equipment Failure Data: A Re-Analysis

Recent research at NORWEB concerned with rationalising the comany's equipment replacement policies, has focussed on the failure rates of 11kV / 415V pole-mounted transformers. Results confirm that the Gumbel distribution provides a much more convincing analytical representation for these fault data than the usual Weibull option.

This paper outlines the development of a web-based expert system, equipment failure analysis expert system (EFAES), for the largest steel company in Taiwan. The EFAES inference engine employs both case-based reasoning (CBR) and rule-based reasoning (RBR) to generate a hybrid recommendation list for cross validation.
