The Twenty Year Effect - Avoiding Back To The Future Scenarios In Failure Analysis [PDF]
The Materials Investigation Group at Bluescope Steel's Port Kembla Steelworks has carried out diagnosis of failure mechanisms for 40 years, with problems emerging with new equipment, and regrettably, from time to time, the same lessons having to be ...

Cost-benefit modelling for reliability growth [PDF]
Decisions during the reliability growth development process of engineering equipment involve trade-offs between cost and risk. However slight, there exists a chance an item of equipment will not function as planned during its specified life. Consequently

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Practical extensions to the level of repair analysis [PDF]
The level of repair analysis (lora) gives answers to three questions that are posed when deciding on how to maintain capital goods: 1) which components to repair upon failure and which to discard, 2) at which locations in the repair network to perform ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Towards a Simpler Selection Process for Maintenance Strategies [PDF]
Recent research at four large manufacturing sites in the North East of England showed that maintenance organisations were failing because they were locked in a cycle of quick fix and mend despite deploying extensive planned maintenance policies ...
