Neural correlates of derived relational responding on tests of stimulus equivalence
Background An essential component of cognition and language involves the formation of new conditional relations between stimuli based upon prior experiences. Results of investigations on transitive inference (TI) highlight a prominent role for the medial

Synergistic perspectives—How single‐molecule biophysics complement biochemical understanding
In this review, we discuss how ensemble biochemistry and single‐molecule approaches are complementary, outline commonly used single‐molecule techniques, and illustrate their relevance through two representative case studies: chromatin organization by SMC complexes and pathway choice during DNA double‐strand break repair.

On cardinalities of k-abelian equivalence classes
Two words $u$ and $v$ are $k$-abelian equivalent if, for each word $x$ of length at most $k$, $x$ occurs equally many times as a factor in both $u$ and $v$. The notion of $k$-abelian equivalence is an intermediate notion between the abelian equivalence and the equality of words. In this paper, we study the equivalence classes induced by the $k$-abelian

Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

The Complexity of Identifying Large Equivalence Classes

We prove that at least (3k−4) / k(2k−3) n(n-1)/2 − O(k) equivalence tests and no
more than 2/k n(n-1)/2 + O(n)
equivalence tests are needed in the worst case to identify the equivalence classes with at least k members in set of n elements. The upper bound is an improvement by a factor 2 compared to known results.

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

Mycobacterial 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase uses a mobile biotin‐carrying domain to shuttle a carboxyl group between two catalytic sites, enabling carboxylation of 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA during leucine breakdown. Cryo‐electron microscopy captures the carrier at both sites and reveals an inward loop movement that may prevent futile rebinding to the ...

Independence Equivalence Classes of Paths and Cycles
The independence polynomial of a graph is the generating polynomial for the number of independent sets of each size. Two graphs are said to be \textit{independence equivalent} if they have equivalent independence polynomials. We extend previous work by showing that independence equivalence class of every odd path has size 1, while the class can contain

State-Dependent Implication and Equivalence in Quantum Logic
Ideal occurrence of an event (projector) leads to the known change of a state (density operator) into (the Lüders state). It is shown that two events and give the same Lüders state if and only if the equivalence relation is valid.
