The development and validation of effect size measures for IRT and CFA studies of measurement equivalence [PDF]
Evaluating measurement equivalence is a necessary first step before comparisons can be made across groups or over time. As a result, techniques for evaluating equivalence have received much attention in the literature.

Detection of energetic equivalence depends on food web architecture and estimators of energy use
Ecologists have long debated the universality of the energetic equivalence rule, which posits that population energy use should be invariant with average body size due to negative size–density scaling.

Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Personal Assessments of Minimum Income and Expenses: What Do They Tell Us about 'Minimum Living' Thresholds and Equivalence Scales? [PDF]
Subjective minimum income (MIQ) and minimum spending (MSQ) are the study focus. Basic Needs Module (1995) data from the U.S. Survey of Income and Program Participation are analyzed.

Trace Equivalence Decision: Negative Tests and Non-determinism [PDF]
We consider security properties of cryptographic protocols that can be modeled using the notion of trace equivalence. The notion of equivalence is crucial when specifying privacy-type properties, like anonymity, vote-privacy, and unlinkability.

Mycobacterial 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase uses a mobile biotin‐carrying domain to shuttle a carboxyl group between two catalytic sites, enabling carboxylation of 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA during leucine breakdown. Cryo‐electron microscopy captures the carrier at both sites and reveals an inward loop movement that may prevent futile rebinding to the ...

ON THE AGGREGATION OF MONEY MEASURES OF WELL-BEING IN APPLIED WELFARE ECONOMICS [PDF]
This article investigates the properties, good and bad, of social evaluations based on four money measures of well-being or changes in well-being: compensating variations, money metrics, extended money metrics, and welfare ratios.

Facts about the Fourier-Stieltjes Transform of Vector Measures on Compact Groups
This paper gives an interpretation of the Fourier-Stieltjes transform of vector measures by means of the tensor product of Hilbert spaces. It also extends the Kronecker product to some operators arising from the Fourier-Stieltjes transformation and ...

How do genomes gain new functional parts? In eukaryotes, which tend to evolve under weak selection, much of the genome is junk. Palazzo and Qiu borrow the logic of Markov chains to show how non‐functional DNA becomes functional through the appearance of intermediate states, which arise due to epistasis, buffering, and biochemical messiness, allowing ...

Measuring and testing tail equivalence
We call two copulas tail equivalent if their first-order approximations in the tail coincide. As a special case, a copula is called tail symmetric if it is tail equivalent to the associated survival copula. We propose a novel measure and statistical test for tail equivalence.
