Characterization of Sand–Gravel Mixtures Using Shear Wave Velocity Method and Intergranular State Concept

open access: yesGeotechnics
Shear wave velocity (VS) measurements are widely used to characterize geomaterials, evaluate small-strain stiffness, and develop indirect approaches for estimating the liquefaction resistance of various soil types.

Fractional-order plasticity model for sand-silt mixtures

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
The sand-silt mixtures, as common heterogeneous soils, are ubiquitous in nature and geotechnical engineering, and their particle contact state and mechanical properties are significantly affected by the factors such as density, stress level and fines ...

Constitutive model for methane hydrate-bearing sediments describing mechanical properties during hydrate dissociation

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
The stress partitioning constitutive framework for methane hydrate-bearing sediments (SPF-MHBS) assumes that the skeleton matrix and hydrates share the effective stress on the MHBS while deforming under the same strain, allowing independent establishment

Microstructure Modification of Additively Manufactured Mo–9Si–8B by Annealing and Its Effects on High‐Temperature Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Postbuild annealing systematically modifies the phase fractions and morphology of EB‐PBF processed Mo–9Si–8B. Quantitative microstructure–property correlations reveal how controlled phase evolution enhances high‐temperature compressive strength and creep resistance.

Bio‐Inspired Synthesis of Macroporous Single Crystal Particles as Scattering Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A general strategy is presented that delivers unique, single‐crystal microparticles that combine submicron macroporosity and uniform particle shapes. A bioinspired approach is used to occlude three distinct types of additives – polystyrene microspheres, polymer vesicles and amino acids – within calcite single crystals, and subsequent thermal annealing ...

Experimental study on development patterns of volumetric strain and predictive modeling for saturated coral sands

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
The coral sand has better drainage conditions, and the drainage deformation of the saturated coral sand under earthquake and wave loads can easily cause damage to the seabed and nearby structures.

Polarization Sensitivity of Chiral Manganese Halide Scintillators Enables High‐Resolution X‐Ray Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Highly luminescent chiral manganese halide crystals are synthesized using chiral ligands, and they exhibit dissymmetry factors up to 1.4 × 10−2 and show X‐ray detection scintillation capability with a light yield of 43 380 photons/MeV and a low detection limit of 0.05198 µGyair·s−1.

Effect of Fine Content on Liquefaction Resistance of Saturated Marine Sandy Soils Subjected to Cyclic Loading

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Offshore wind turbines are subjected to environmental loads such as wind and ocean waves throughout their entire service lives. Saturated sandy soils experience liquefaction under cyclic shear stresses induced by earthquakes or strong wave actions, which

Biomimetic Microfractals Based Flexible Triboelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A leaf‐skeleton‐based microfractal architecture is integrated with guided CuNW networks and biomimetic triboelectric polymer layers, enabling breathable, flexible, and material‐efficient triboelectric nanogenerators. The resulting system combines enhanced charge generation and charge transport, offering potential for next‐generation self‐powered ...

Development patterns of the dynamic elastic modulus of saturated coral sand under different drainage conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Long-term cyclic loading can have a significant effect on the modulus of sand, and the influence on saturated coral sand has yet to be established. In this paper, the significant influence of non-plastic fines content (FC) and relative density (Dr) on ...
