Arctic warming in ERA‐Interim and other analyses

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 2014
Near‐surface and lower‐tropospheric warming of the Arctic over the past 35 years is examined for several datasets. The new estimate for the near surface reported by Cowtan and Way in 2014 agrees reasonably well with the ERA‐Interim reanalysis for this region.

Comparison of VOS and ERA-Interim Wave Data

Volume 3: Structures, Safety, and Reliability, 2019
Abstract Accuracy of Voluntary Observing Ship’s reports is evaluated by a one-to-one comparison with ERA-interim database, specifically considering significant wave height. A first screening allows to detect the most common and undeniable mistakes, as for instance clear errors in reporting the position of the vessel, and delete these ...

Climatology of the ITCZ derived from ERA Interim reanalyses

Journal of Geophysical Research, 2011
The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is usually analyzed in terms of the precipitation field. This study presents a new climatology of the ITCZ based on winds from ERA Interim reanalyses for the period 1990–2009. The central latitude of the ITCZ is defined as the zero crossing of the meridional wind averaged over 10 model levels below 900 hPa ...

Determination of ERA-INTERIM Proficiency for Rainfall–Runoff Modeling

2020
In case of ungauged or poorly gauged basins, such as data-scarce Beas River basin, the main challenge is determining the utility of reanalysis data for simulation of river discharge. According to the researchers, the availability of large number of rain gauge station can improve the result of rainfall–runoff models.

Era-interim Forced Simulation of the Indian Summer Monsoon

Marine Geodesy, 2019
In the present study, mean rainfall for the months of June-July-August-September (JJAS) during summer monsoon is simulated over India and its adjoining regions for a period between 1982 and 2006.

Evaluation of ERA-Interim and MERRA Cloudiness in the Southern Ocean

Journal of Climate, 2014
Abstract The Southern Ocean cloud cover modeled by the Interim ECMWF Re-Analysis (ERA-Interim) and Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications (MERRA) reanalyses are compared against Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and Multiangle Imaging Spectroradiometer (MISR) observations.

The world ocean wave fields discerned from ERA-Interim spectra

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 2022
Ocean waves at any particular location are the result of the superposition of locally generated waves by wind, plus swells advected from somewhere else. Swells in particular can travel very long distances with marginal energy loss such that their signal, albeit reduced by dispersion, can be detected all across the oceans.

On the quality of the ERA‐Interim ozone reanalyses: comparisons with satellite data

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 2011
AbstractThis article presents an assessment of the quality of the ERA‐Interim ozone analyses produced by the European Centre for Medium‐Range Weather Forecasts. Ozone retrievals from a number of satellite instruments and an ad hoc generated mean total column ozone (TCO) reference are used to assess the quality of the ERA‐Interim ozone analyses during ...
