Acoustically tuned erbium-doped fiber ring laser

Optics Letters, 1991
We report what is to our knowledge the first narrow-linewidth, continuously tunable laser that uses an acousto-optic filter to achieve a broad tuning range. The unidirectional ring-laser configuration incorporates an erbium-doped fiber amplifier as the gain medium and an integrated, frequency-shift-compensated acousto-optic filter as the tuning element.

Dual-wavelength erbium-doped fluoride fiber laser

Lasers in Medical Science, 2019
The laser source with 3 μm/2 μm output wavelength has many application prospects in clinical medicine, photoelectric countermeasure, and scientific research measurement. An Er3+ doped ZBLAN fiber laser with output wavelength of 2 .8 μm and 1 .6 μm is experimentally studied.

Highly Erbium-doped fibers characterization and modeling for Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers in WDM regime

Optical Amplifiers and Their Applications, 2005
Simple experiments are used to determine ion-pairs percentage and macroscopic homogeneous upconversion in highly erbium-doped fibers. Using these parameters in a Giles-based model enable to predict Optical-Power-Conversion-Efficiency of WDM-EDFAs with a fair agreement.

Performance analysis of erbium doped fiber amplifiers

2009 IEEE 17th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference, 2009
In this study, gain characteristics of erbium doped fiber amplifiers, EDFAs, which are important elements of optical communications over C and L bands, are examined. The factors that effect the gain of an EDFA are given and the differences among some EDFA designs which operate on various wavelengths are determined.

Loop Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers

Fiber and Integrated Optics, 2000
A comprehensive study of implementing erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) using a loop configuration is presented. Two different schemes based on the mechanism of directing the loop output are investigated. The amplified spontaneous emission at the output port is 3 dB lower than conventional designs.

Frequency doubling in erbium-doped fibers

Optical Materials, 1994
Abstract Erbium-doped fibers have been prepared for frequency doubling with various input powers. Annealing experiments were carried out, and a single exponential decay in time was found for the conversion efficiency. An activation energy of ~ 0.2 eV was measured for two fibers with different Er 3+ concentrations. A peculiar modal evolution was also

Erbium-doped Mid-Infrared Fiber Lasers

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2016
The performance of mid-infrared fiber lasers based on erbium has improved dramatically during the last few years. In this paper we will discuss the progress of a fiber laser that can operate on both the 3.5 μm transition and/or the more common 2.8 μm transition in erbium.

Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier

2018
An erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) has five main optical components: an erbium-doped fiber, a laser diode (LD) to pump the fiber, a wavelength-dependent fiber coupler, a polarization-independent optical isolator, and an optical bandpass filter. The LDs operate at wavelengths which include 1.48, 0.98, and 0.82 μm.

Q-Switched Erbium-Doped Fiber Lasers

2006 International Students and Young Scientists Workshop - Photonics and Microsystems, 2006
A few configurations of Q-switched erbium-doped fiber lasers (QEFLs) were investigated. Two kinds of Q-switching elements - acousto-optic and electro-optic were used. We show the advantage of A-O technique with frequency shifting over the electro-optical one.

Bistability of erbium-doped fiber laser

Optics Communications, 1998
In this paper, we report a study of the dynamic response of an erbium-doped fiber ring laser. When the pump light is sinusoidally modulated with small modulation index, the lasing light displays a resonant peak at a particular modulation frequency. However, as the modulation index was increased, two regions of bistability were observed. Furthermore, by
