Seven-Ring-Core Erbium-Doped Fiber for OAM-MDM Amplification

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2023
Orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode division multiplexing (MDM) amplification in a seven-ring-core erbium-doped fiber (7-RC-EDF) has been experimentally demonstrated, in which the 1st–4th order OAM modes within each core of the 7-RC-EDF can be ...

Five Orders of Cascaded Raman Fibre Laser Oscillation From 1550 nm to Mid‐IR at 2334 nm Wavelength

open access: yesElectronics Letters, Volume 61, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
We experimentally demonstrate five orders of cascaded Raman oscillations (Raman lasers) in a fibre, starting from ∼1550 nm until 2334 nm. ABSTRACT We demonstrate a cascaded Raman fibre laser (RFL) oscillation up to the fifth order Stokes wave, from ∼1550 nm to mid‐IR at 2334 nm, with silica fibres.

Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser With a Microfiber Coupled to Silica Microsphere

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
A compact erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) is demonstrated using a piece of 1.5-m-long erbium-doped fiber (EDF) with a microfiber coupled to a silica microsphere at the output end.

Opportunities, challenges and requirements for introducing space division multiplexing in fibre optical networks

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
The authors discuss opportunities, challenges and requirements for successful commercialisation of space division multiplexing (SDM) in optical networks. The authors consider recent developments in SDM technology and focus on the importance of different geometrical parameters when designing multi‐core fibres and on the design choices for shared SDM ...

Amplification technology for spatial division multiplexing signals transmitted using multicore fibres

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 179-187, December 2024.
Multicore (MC‐) erbium‐doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) architecture is classified from the viewpoint of the number of erbium‐doped fibre (EDF) cores and its pumping method. In particular, the advantages of cladding pumped MC‐EDFA are shown. Abstract Amplification technologies needed for spatial division multiplexing (SDM) signal transmission have been ...

Development of a portable and cost‐effective femtosecond fibre laser synchronizable with synchrotron X‐ray pulses

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, Volume 31, Issue 4, Page 821-828, July 2024.
This study introduces a compact, portable femtosecond fibre laser system optimized for synchronization with SPring‐8 synchrotron X‐ray pulses in a uniform filling mode, offering a practical and cost‐effective alternative to traditionally, fixed, installed laser systems for time‐resolved spectroscopy combining synchrotron X‐ray pulses and laser pulses ...

Dual-Polarization Distributed Feedback Fiber Laser Sensor Based on Femtosecond Laser-Inscribed In-Fiber Stressors for Simultaneous Strain and Temperature Measurements

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel dual-polarization distributed feedback fiber laser (DFB-FL) sensor based on femtosecond laser-inscribed in-fiber stressors. The resonant cavity of the DFB-FL sensor consists of a phase-shifted fiber Bragg

In-Fiber Mach–Zehnder Interferometer Based on Er Doped Up-Taper and Peanut-Shaped Fiber Structure in Fiber Ring Laser

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
It is demonstrated that in this paper a peanut shaped structure cascaded with up-taper fiber structure can realize the inter mode interference between the Erbium doped fiber (EDF) core mode and cladding modes in fiber ring laser (FRL).

Multistability manipulation by reinforcement learning algorithm inside mode‐locked fiber laser

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 13, Issue 16, Page 2891-2901, July 2024.
Abstract Fiber mode‐locked lasers are nonlinear optical systems that provide ultrashort pulses at high repetition rates. However, adjusting the cavity parameters is often a challenging task due to the intrinsic multistability of a laser system. Depending on the adjustment of the cavity parameters, the optical output may vary significantly, including Q ...

Graphene-Based Saturable Absorber for Single-Longitudinal-Mode Operation of Highly Doped Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
In this paper, a conventional wavelength band (C-band) fiber laser with a tunable single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) output using multilayer graphene as a saturable absorber is demonstrated. The proposed fiber laser uses a short length of highly doped erbium-
