Polarization switchable Erbium-doped all-fiber laser

Laser Physics Letters, 2008
We report an experimental study of an erbium-doped all-fiber laser with electrically switchable output polarization. Fiber Bragg grating written in a polarization maintaining optical fiber and attached to a piezo-ceramic actuator is used to commute the polarization state of the laser emission. The laser oscillates at one of two orthogonal polarizations

Self-pulsing in Erbium-doped fiber laser

2015 Optoelectronics Global Conference (OGC), 2015
We report the study of self-pulsing behavior in erbium-doped fiber laser due to the ion-pair formation and scattered feedback. We observed the high doping concentration of the laser to be the main cause of the pulsing phenomenon. We also demonstrate that the self pulsing can be suppressed by resonance pumping.

Optimized performance of erbium‐doped fiber lasers

Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 1995
AbstractA figure of merit and an optimization procedure are defined, with the aim being to maximize the output power of erbium‐doped fiber lasers. Two tunable erbium‐doped fiber‐ring lasers are assembled as examples. The calculated results well agree with the experimental data, confirming the validity of the model. © 1995 John Wiley & Sous, Inc.

Visible erbium-doped ZBLAN fiber upconversion laser

2000 2nd International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.00EX408), 2002
Laser emission in the visible from an all-solid-state device is still a demanding challenge, especially when optical fibers are being used. The paper presents results of investigations of the upconversion process and describes basic properties of the laser: saturation and transient effects, spectral properties and the output power of the emitted beam ...

Optimization of erbium-doped fiber MOPA laser

Optics Communications, 2010
An erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) constructed in a master oscillator and power amplifier (MOPA) configuration is analyzed. The pump powers for the fiber cavity laser and the booster amplifier stages are managed properly to achieve maximal pump conversion efficiency.

The dynamics of erbium-doped fiber laser

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
The nonlinear dynamics of an erbium-doped fiber laser is explained based on a simple model of the ion pairs present in heavily doped fibers. The single-mode laser dynamics is reductible to four nonlinear differential equations. Depending on the ion pair concentration, the pumping level and the photon lifetime in the laser cavity, numerical ...

Characteristics of an erbium-doped fiber laser

Optical Engineering, 1993
A study of the erbium-doped multicomponent glass fiber laser pumped by an argon ion laser is presented. Simultaneous laser oscillation in (a) the 1535- and 1550-nm bands and (b) 1550- and 1565-nm bands were observed, and the results indicate the possibility of achieving laser oscillations simultaneously at all three wavelength bands-of interest in ...

Laser-diode-pumped nonlinear switch in erbium-doped fiber

Optics Letters, 1992
We describe a two-mode fiber switch made of a short length of erbium-doped fiber in which switching is accomplished by a nonlinearity that is resonantly enhanced by the dopant. In a 0.95-m fiber pumped with a 1.48-μm laser diode, a 906-nm signal is switched with only 8 mW of absorbed power at a signal absorption loss of 0.25 dB.

Multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser based on graphene oxide

Applied Optics, 2014
A multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser based on graphene oxide (GO) has been proposed, to the best of our knowledge, for the first time, to generate an output of stable wavelengths. The structure mainly comprises a few layers of GO between two single-mode fibers incorporated into a capillary device and a Lyot comb filter.

Waveband-tunable multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser

Applied Optics, 2010
A waveband-tunable multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser based on a novel integrated structure of nonlinear polarization rotation and an unbalanced in-line Sagnac interferometer is proposed and demonstrated. An ultrabroadband lasing spectrum with 140 wavelength lasing peaks periodically distributed from 1563 to 1612.5 nm accompanied by a lasing ...
