Erbium-doped mid-infrared fiber lasers
Laser Technology for Defense and Security XV, 2019The performance of mid-infrared fiber lasers operating on the 3.5 μm transition in erbium has improved significantly since the first demonstration that dual wavelength pumping allowed efficient operation. In this contribution, we will discuss the progress of fiber lasers that operate on this transition with an emphasis on advances towards short pulse ...

Cryogenically cooled erbium-doped fiber lasers
International Summer Session: Lasers and Their Applications, 2011Experiments on core- and cladding-pumped Er-doped fiber lasers demonstrate that the output power more than double when they are cooled from room temperature to liquid-nitrogen temperature, reaching 95 mW and 1.21 W for core and cladding-pumping fiber lasers respectively in the “eye-safe” emission band around 1.6 μm.

Multiwavelength Erbium doped fiber ring lasers
Optics Communications, 2009Abstract We demonstrate a multiple wavelength laser, employing wavelength dependent cavity losses, with up to four lasing wavelengths on the ITU-grid in the C-band and report on its stability characteristics. The linewidth of each wavelength was estimated to be less than 4 pm and we observed antiphase oscillations around 3 kHz and relaxation ...

Linearly chirped erbium-doped fiber laser
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2003Linear tuning the frequency of an erbium-doped fiber laser over a 46-nm spectral range is demonstrated using a rotating mirror/grating combination as one of the reflectors in a Fabry-Perot laser cavity. The rate of frequency change is determined by monitoring the fringes produced when the laser light reflects from a fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer ...

Electronically tunable, 155-μm erbium-doped fiber laser
Optics Letters, 1990An erbium-doped, silica-based fiber laser was electronically tuned over two ranges from 1529.6 to 1533.3 nm and from 1543.8 to 1563.0 nm with more than 13 mW of maximum power. The tuning element was an intracavity acousto-optic modulator (Bragg cell) configured to feed back the first-order, frequency-shifted deflected beam. The maximum optical/acoustic

Erbium-doped fiber lasers as deep-sea hydrophones
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2006The present work deals with the development of a prototype of hydrophone for deep see acoustic detection. The base sensitive element is a single mode erbium-doped fiber laser. The high sensitivity make these sensors very suitable for a wide range of deep see acoustic applications, including the geological survey, the marine mammals survey and overall ...

Multiwavelength polarization maintaining erbium doped fiber lasers
Proceedings of 2003 5th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2003., 2004In this paper simultaneous multiwavelength lasing in fiber ring laser using PM EDF (polarization maintaining erbium doped fiber) is presented. Experimental results indicate that multiwavelength lasing is connected with the elliptical polarization state of the output signal.

High power Q-switched erbium doped fiber laser
IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1992The design rules and experiments with the Q-switched Er/sup 3+/ fiber laser are presented. The optimization of the fiber parameters resulted in 230 W/8 ns pulses for 250 mW of green pumping power, the highest peak power combined with such short pulses ever demonstrated for this type of laser. Self-mode-locked operation is also reported. The performance

Multiple Dual-Wavelengths Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser
OFC/NFOEC 2008 - 2008 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2008A multiple dual-wavelengths erbium-doped fiber laser is demonstrated. More than 30 power equalized dual-wavelengths is achieved in 10 nm range. The switchability to normal multiple wavelengths laser is also discussed.

Large core-area erbium-doped fiber laser
Optics Communications, 1998A large core-area 804 mm erbium-doped fiber laser is demonstrated. The laser power showed oscillatory or spiky behavior at a stable frequency, which, we believe, results from relaxation oscillation, seeded by noises in the high erbium concentration gain medium. q 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
