Erectile Dysfunction in Men With Gallbladder Stone Disease: A Nationwide Population-Based Study
We assessed the risk of erectile dysfunction after the diagnosis of gallbladder stone disease. We identified 9,362 men aged ≥20 years diagnosed with gallbladder stone disease between 2000 and 2011 from Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database

Experimental investigation of the flow downstream of a dysfunctional bileaflet mechanical aortic valve [PDF]
Mechanical heart valve replacement is the preferred alternative in younger patients with severe symptomatic aortic valve disease. However, thrombus and pannus formations are common complications associated with bileaflet mechanical heart valves. This leads to risks of valve leaflet dysfunction, a life threatening event.

Methylglyoxal induces cardiac dysfunction through mechanisms involving altered intracellular calcium handling in the rat heart [PDF]
Methylglyoxal (MGO) is an endogenous, highly reactive dicarbonyl metabolite generated under hyperglycaemic conditions. MGO plays a role in developing pathophysiological conditions, including diabetic cardiomyopathy. However, the mechanisms involved and the molecular targets of MGO in the heart have not been elucidated.

Interstitial cells and neurons respond to variations in hydration [PDF]
Dehydration and brain interstitial fluid alterations associate to cognitive dysfunction. We now explore whether changes in matrix hydration are a possible common signal for modulation of water-transfer rates and neuron function.

Prediction of Turbulent Shear Stresses through Dysfunctional Bileaflet Mechanical Heart Valves using Computational Fluid Dynamics [PDF]
There are more than 300,000 heart valves implanted annually worldwide with about 50% of them being mechanical valves. The heart valve replacement is often a common treatment for severe valvular disease. However, valves may dysfunction leading to adverse hemodynamic conditions.
