Rehabilitation technology or the ergonomics of ergonomics
Ergonomics, 1990This paper describes some of the problems in rehabilitation technology. It is emphasized that design for people with impairments will become more and more 'less special'. A good design procedure involves a very good knowledge of the target group. Target groups cannot be described by the usual statistics as seen in ergonomics.

WORK: A Journal of Prevention, Assessment & Rehabilitation, 2000
Worker safety and health, and productivity and efficiency on the job can be greatly impacted by the application of ergonomics. This article outlines the decision making process for implementing ergonomic change in the workplace. Ergonomic principles, as well as risk factors for the upper extremity and low back are identified.

Ergonomics, 1976
This paper begins with an introduction and description of the background to this area; more general environmental aspects and certain chemical risks are then dealt with, followed by a discussion of accidents arising from consumer products. Finally, marketing of products from an ergonomic viewpoint and other aspects will be discussed.

Ergonomics in Schools has focused on micro-ergonomics issues such as mismatch between student body sizes and their desks and chairs, the weight of schoolbags and the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders amongst school students. Very little of this has been turned into practice.

The Ergonomics of Economics is the Economics of Ergonomics
Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meeting, 1996Several reasons for the failure of business and government decison-makers to more adequately recognize the benefits of human factors/ergonomics and strongly support and endorse its application are reviewed. In particular, the failure of members of our profession to more consisistently and adequately document and publicize the cost-benefits of their ...

AbstractThere is a growing body of evidence to suggest that surgeon posture while operating contributes to cervical musculoskeletal strain, discomfort, and chronic pain. Microsurgeons may be particularly susceptible to this risk due to persistent neck flexion, long periods of static posture, and the use of heavy, high‐power loupe magnification. Several

Every day, the vast majority of consumers make contact with some packaging. With most products, the consumer realizes the œrst contact through interaction with the packaging. For this reason, the design of packaging is of great importance for consumers.

The two main principles of ergonomics can be said to 'fit the job to the man', or 'fit the man to the job'. To a high extent this is really valid for lighting ergonomics. If an employee complains that he (or she) cannot see properly what he is doing in his work it could be adjusted either by improving the job itself or by improving the visual capacity ...
