Efficient Anchoring of Erianthus arundinaceus Chromatin Introgressed into Sugarcane by Specific Molecular Markers [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Mol Sci, 2022
Erianthus arundinaceus is a valuable gene reservoir for sugarcane improvement. However, insufficient molecular markers for high-accuracy identification and tracking of the introgression status of E. arundinaceus chromatin impede sugarcane breeding. Fortunately, suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) technology provides an excellent opportunity for

Biomass and energy potential of Erianthus arundinaceus and Saccharum spontaneum-derived novel sugarcane hybrids in rainfed environments [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Energy canes are viable feedstocks for biomass industries due to their high biomass production potential, lower susceptibility to insects and diseases, better ability to adapt to extreme conditions and clean bioenergy.

Sweetcane (Erianthus arundinaceus) as a native bioenergy crop with environmental remediation potential in southern China: A review [PDF]

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, 2019
Sweetcane (Erianthus arundinaceus [Retzius] Jeswiet) is an ecologically dominant warm‐season perennial grass native to southern China. It traditionally plays an important role in sugarcane breeding due to its excellent biological traits and genetic ...

EVALUATION OF WILD SUGARCANE ERIANTHUS ARUNDINACEUS (RETZ) JESW. GERMPLASM

open access: yesJournal of Sugarcane Research, 2020
The wild sugarcane species, Erianthus arundinaceus, was evaluated for its stalk characters, biomass production, fiber content and juice quality. This species has the potential to provide fiber as raw material for paper manufacture, bio-fermentation ...

Overexpression of an NF-YB gene family member, EaNF-YB2, enhances drought tolerance in sugarcane (Saccharum Spp. Hybrid) [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Drought is one of main critical factors that limits sugarcane productivity and juice quality in tropical regions. The unprecedented changes in climate such as monsoon failure, increase in temperature and other factors warrant the need for ...

Cloning of NAC 1 gene from Erianthus arundinaceus and development of transformation vector for sugarcane

open access: yesJournal of Sugarcane Research, 2023
Genetic engineering approach is a viable method to impart abiotic stress tolerance in crop plants. The genomic compatability between Saccharum and related genera allows for broader application in sugarcane improvement programme in terms of improved ...

Biomass potential of novel interspecific and intergeneric hybrids of Saccharum grown in sub-tropical climates [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Sugarcane-derived biomass is a promising source of renewable energy to meet the growing demands for biofuel. Currently, modern sugarcane cultivars are unable to provide enough biomass due to their narrow genetic base and susceptibility to abiotic and ...

Targeted mutagenesis in Nicotiana tabacum ADF gene using shockwave‐mediated ribonucleoprotein delivery increases osmotic stress tolerance

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 173, Issue 3, Page 993-1007, November 2021., 2021
Abstract DNA‐free genome editing involves the direct introduction of ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes into cells, but this strategy has rarely been successful in plants. In the present study, we describe a new technique for the introduction of RNPs into plant cells involving the generation of cavitation bubbles using a pulsed laser.

Viability of sugarcane and Erianthus arundinaceus pollen under marcotting treatment

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2022
Abstract Most of the sugarcane cultivated today is the hybrid between Saccharum offinarum and its relative, S. spontaneum. The breeding relies mainly on the crossing of male and female parents, which needs the excellent viability of the pollen from the male parent.

Chromosome transmission in BC4 progenies of intergeneric hybrids between Saccharum spp. and Erianthus arundinaceus (Retz.) Jeswiet. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2019
AbstractIntergeneric hybrids between Saccharum spp. and Erianthus arundinaceus and clones derived from these hybrids and backcrosses to Saccharum spp. were used to study the transmission of E. arundinaceus chromosomes by genomic in situ hybridization (GISH). True hybrid progenies were precisely identified using PCR with a primer pair, AGRP52/53.
