Wild Sugarcane - Saccharum sp. germplasm collection in the states of Punjab and Haryana, India

open access: yesJournal of Sugarcane Research, 2021
The Indian sub-continent harbours a great wealth of diversity of Saccharum and its related genera. Several targeted expeditions were conducted to collect the range of diversity present in Saccharum complex from diverse parts of the country. But the north

Assessment of genetically modified Maize MON 87429 for food and feed uses, under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 (application EFSA‐GMO‐NL‐2019‐161)

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 20, Issue 11, November 2022., 2022
Abstract Maize MON 87429 was developed to confer tolerance to dicamba, glufosinate, quizalofop and 2,4‐D herbicides. The molecular characterisation data and bioinformatic analyses do not identify issues requiring food/feed safety assessment. None of the identified differences in the agronomic/phenotypic and compositional characteristics tested between ...

Nitrogen rate and harvest date effects on energy cane yield, quality parameters, nutrient uptake and biomass chemical composition

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 5, Issue 3, 2022., 2022
Abstract Enhancing energy cane biomass production can increase feedstock supply for lignocellulosic‐based ethanol production. This study was conducted at the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center (LSU AgCenter) Sugar Research Station in St. Gabriel, LA, from 2013 to 2015 to evaluate yield, fiber composition, and nutrient removal rate of energy

Current Challenges in Commercially Producing Biofuels from Lignocellulosic Biomass

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Biofuels that are produced from biobased materials are a good alternative to petroleum based fuels. They offer several benefits to society and the environment. Producing second generation biofuels is even more challenging than producing first generation biofuels due the complexity of the biomass and issues related to producing, harvesting, and ...

Energy Cane: Its Concept, Development, Characteristics, and Prospects

open access: yesAdvances in Botany, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Unlike conventional sugar cane (Saccharum spp.) energy cane is a cane selected to have more fiber than sucrose in its composition. This is obtained simply by altering the genetic contribution of the ancestral species of sugarcane using traditional breeding methods. The resulting key feature is a significant increase in biomass yield.

Potential for genetic improvement of sugarcane as a source of biomass for biofuels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Sugarcane (Saccharum spp. hybrids) has great potential as a major feedstock for biofuel production worldwide. It is considered among the best options for producing biofuels today due to an exceptional biomass production capacity, high carbohydrate (sugar

13: MOVEMENTS, BEHAVIOR, AND NESTING ECOLOGY OF THE WILD TURKEY IN EASTERN ALABAMA*

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, Volume 1973, Issue S1, Page 109-123, January 1973., 1973
ABSTRACT An ecological study of the eastern wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris) was conducted in the Alabama Piedmont during the spring and summer of 1968 and 1969. Fifteen hens were captured, patagium‐tagged, instrumented with 27 MHz radio transmitters, and released at the capture sites.
