A strategy to improve fatigue performance of oil-grade nickel-based alloy 718: Low-temperature arc-enhanced glow discharge nitriding

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Aging hardening nickel-based alloy 718 is a key material for oil and gas applications, but it is susceptible to fatigue failure under the combined effects of cyclic loading and corrosive media. This study focused on exploring low-temperature Arc-Enhanced

Flow accelerated corrosion and erosion−corrosion behavior of marine carbon steel in natural seawater

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation, 2021
In this work, flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) and erosion−corrosion of marine carbon steel in natural seawater were electrochemically studied using a submerged impingement jet system. Results show that the formation of a relatively compact rust layer in

Studying and comparing the erosion-enhanced pitting corrosion of X52 and X100 steels

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2012
The critical ratio of Cl− to HCO− concerning the corrosion rate has been determined with and without electrolyte erosion in 0.3 M NaHCO3 by using various concentrations of NaCl for X52 and X100 steels.

Improvement of Erosion-Corrosion Behavior of AISI 420 Stainless Steel by Ion-Assisted Deposition ZrN Coatings

open access: yesMetals, 2021
In this paper, a pragmatic technique has been developed to evaluate the erosion-corrosion behavior of three kinds of ZrN coatings (i.e., monolayer, multilayer, and gradient layers) which were deposited on AISI 420 martensitic stainless steel using an ion-

Erosion-corrosion and wear [PDF]

open access: yesLe Journal de Physique IV, 1993
The basic processes of wear, erosion and erosion-corrosion are reviewed. It is shown that oxide debris can accelerate wear when it is present as particulates, or protect and reduce friction when it is present as a glaze. Erosion-corrosion processes can be understood and organized in a series of regimes that represent a sequence of change in the ...

Mapping erosion-corrosion of carbon steel in oil-water solutions : Effect of velocity and applied potential

open access: yes, 2012
In this study, the combined effects of erosion and corrosion on carbon steel were investigated in three environments containing crude oil, reservoir water, and a mixture of both solutions at a range of applied potentials, velocities and impact angle. The

Effect of flow pattern at pipe bends on corrosion behaviour of low carbon steek and its challenges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Recent design work regarding seawater flow lines has emphasized the need to identify, develop, and verify critical relationships between corrosion prediction and flow regime mechanisms at pipe bend.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Erosion - Corrosion of Cermet Coating

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2013
Cermet-based coatings are being increasingly used to combat erosion-corrosion in oil and gas industries such that occurring in offshore piping, production systems and machinery involving fluid and/or slurry flowing corrosive media which often contain ...
