How density dependence, genetic erosion and the extinction vortex impact evolutionary rescue

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2022
Following severe environmental change that reduces mean population fitness below replacement, populations must adapt to avoid eventual extinction, a process called evolutionary rescue. Models of evolutionary rescue demonstrate that initial size, genetic variation and degree of maladaptation influence population fates.

The Influence of the Density of CNT Arrays on Their Atomic Oxygen Erosion Effects

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2021
Abstract To investigate the characteristic of carbon nanotube (CNT) arrays with high resistance to the hazardous conditions of atomic oxygen in space environment, the erosion effects of atomic oxygen on CNT arrays with different density have been studied by atomic oxygen simulation equipment.

Relationship of Focal Erosions, Bone Mineral Density, and Parathyroid Hormone in Rheumatoid Arthritis [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Rheumatology, 2011
Objective. To investigate the relationship among focal bone erosions and bone mineral density (BMD), 25(OH) vitamin D (25OHD), and parathyroid hormone (PTH) values in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).Methods.The study included 1191 RA patients (1014 women, 177 men, mean age 58.9 ± 11.1 yrs) participating in a multicenter, cross-sectional study ...

Rainfall erosivity assessment over a flooding basin, Kelani River basin, Sri Lanka

open access: yesJournal of Hydroinformatics
This study evaluates the rainfall erosivity (RE) and erosivity density (ED) over the Kelani River basin, Sri Lanka for a period of 31 years (1990–2020). The river basin is well known for its annual floods during the southwestern monsoon season and severe

Vertical Cylinder Density and Toppling Effects on Dune Erosion and Overwash

open access: yesJournal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 2015
AbstractInteractions among waves, sand dunes, and vertical cylinders are investigated in a laboratory experiment. A cross-shore numerical model is expanded to include the drag force acting on cylinders. The hydrodynamic variables modified by the cylinders are used to predict bed load and suspended sand transport rates.

Small RNA pathways in mammalian oocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Three distinct small RNA pathways operate in mammalian oocytes: RNAi interference (RNAi), the microRNA (miRNA) pathway, and the PIWI‐associated RNA (piRNA) pathway. These pathways use small RNAs to guide sequence‐specific repression and contribute to oocyte biology by targeting genes and mobile elements or appear insignificant since different ...

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

Quantitative analysis of soil erosion causative factors for susceptibility assessment in a complex watershed

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2019
Susceptibility analysis and mapping are prerequisites to sustainable land-use management and erosion prevention. Selection of appropriate erosion causative factors (CFs) is crucial in developing valid and accurate susceptibility models. However, existing

Biopsychosocial Determinants of Hand Function and Its Trajectories Over Five Years in Patients With Hand Osteoarthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study aimed to investigate hand function trajectories over five years in primary hand osteoarthritis (OA). Additionally, determinants of baseline and longitudinal hand function were assessed. Methods A total of 538 patients with both baseline and five‐year study visits were analyzed.
