Vacuolar transport and function of Saccharomyces cerevisiae sterol ester hydrolase Tgl1

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tgl1, one of yeast sterol ester hydrolases, had been found on the lipid droplets where sterol esters are mainly stored. This study revealed that Tgl1 is transported into the vacuole depending on the ESCRT‐I–III complex, and that it exhibits intra‐vacuolar sterol ester hydrolase activity.

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Loanwords for language learners: Help or hindrance?

open access: yesVocabulary Learning and Instruction, 2016
Background: Loanwords are a growing component of the Japanese language. During the past six decades, the majority of new loanwords entering the Japanese language have come from the English language. For native Japanese speaking students, loanwords are a

An Analysis of Reduced Error Pruning

open access: yesJournal of Artificial Intelligence Research, 2001
Top-down induction of decision trees has been observed to suffer from the inadequate functioning of the pruning phase. In particular, it is known that the size of the resulting tree grows linearly with the sample size, even though the accuracy of the tree does not improve.

Error analysis of QR algorithms for computing Lyapunov exponents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Lyapunov exponents give valuable information about long term dynamics. The discrete and continuous QR algorithms are widely used numerical techniques for computing approximate Lyapunov exponents, although they are not yet supported by a general error ...

A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.

Kinematic Design of 3-URU Pure Rotational Parallel Mechanism with Consideration of Uncompensatable Error

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2008
Kinematic design of a lower-dof parallel mechanism, a 3-URU pure rotational parallel mechanism, is presented that takes into account the “uncompensatable error”.

Error analysis for polynomial evaluation [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics of Computation, 1974
A floating-point error analysis is given for the evaluation of a real polynomial at a real argument by Horner’s scheme. A computable error bound is derived. It is observed that when a polynomial has coefficients of constant sign or of strictly alternating sign, one cannot expect better accuracy by reformulating the problem in terms of Chebyshev ...
