An error concealment algorithm for images subject to channel errors

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 1995
We present an algorithm to conceal bit errors in still images and image sequences that are coded using the discrete cosine transform (DCT) and variable length codes (VLCs). No modification is necessary to an existing encoder, and no additional bit rate is required.

Error control and concealment for video communication: a review

open access: yesProceedings of the IEEE, 1998
The problem of error control and concealment in video com-munication is becoming increasingly important because of the growing interest in video delivery over unreliable channels such as wireless networks and the Internet.

Mixture Model- and Least Squares-Based Packet Video Error Concealment

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2009
A Gaussian mixture model (GMM)-based spatio-temporal error concealment approach has recently been proposed for packet video. The method improves peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) compared to several famous error concealment methods, and it is ...

Error concealment for motion JPEG2000

IEEE International Conference on Image Processing 2005, 2005
In this paper, we present methods that can be used to conceal errors in corrupt motion JPEG2000 codestreams. Motion JPEG2000 is an intra-frame compression technique and the proposed concealment methods utilize motion compensation to conceal errors. The simulation results indicate that the proposed methods can yield over 10 dB improvement in PSNR.

Error concealment based on overlapping

SPIE Proceedings, 2002
In this paper we proposed a temporal error concealment scheme utilizing the overlapping approach for the block-based video coder. In the proposed algorithm, each pixel of the lost block is recovered by overlapping from four nearest available neighboring blocks.

Syntax based error concealment

Signal Processing: Image Communication, 2001
Abstract An error resilience technique for MPEG2 compressed video is introduced. Errors are located in the compressed domain using a parity check, and then are corrected using residual redundancy in the compressed video stream. This redundancy is in the form of the MPEG syntax and in spatial smoothness.

Decision trees for error concealment in video decoding

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Multimedia, 2003
When macroblocks are lost in an MPEG decoder, the decoder can try to conceal the error by estimating or interpolating the missing area. Many different methods for this type of concealment have been proposed, operating in the spatial, frequency, or ...

Error concealment by data partitioning

Signal Processing: Image Communication, 1999
This paper presents an error concealment strategy for improving the quality of compressed video data when transmitted over noisy communication channels. Data partitioning is used to enable the recovery of motion information when the compressed bit stream is corrupted by channel errors.

Grey temporal error concealment

Grey Systems: Theory and Application, 2011
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to solve the pack loss problem of video transmitted over error‐prone channels. Pack loss generally affects the visual quality of reconstructed frames significantly. Consequently, a grey approach to error concealment (EC) is proposed.Design/methodology/approach – Note that missing information in error blocks can be

Error concealment for shape coding

Proceedings. International Conference on Image Processing, 2003
In ATM networks cell loss or channel errors can cause data to be dropped in the channel. When digital images/video are transmitted over these networks one must be able to reconstruct the missing data so that the impact of the errors is minimized. We present an error concealment technique for object-coded sequences using the MPEG-4 video coding standard.
