Remnant error concealment technique for error recovery
Proceedings Second International Workshop on Digital and Computational Video, 2002This paper presents a remnant error concealment (REC) technique based on generic error concealment (GEC). Two most common issues in video error recovery systems are the locations of lost blocks and error recovery techniques. By using a multistage error detection algorithm to obtain the location of lost blocks of random bit error in the MPEG-2 bit ...

Error concealment considering error propagation inside a frame
2010 IEEE International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing, 2010Transmission of compressed video over error prone channels may result in packet losses or errors, which can significantly degrade the image quality. Such degradation even becomes worse in 1Seg video broadcasting, which is widely used in Japan and Brazil for mobile phone TV service recently, where errors are drastically increased and lost areas are ...

Embedded video compression with error resilience and error concealment
SPIE Proceedings, 2002This paper presents an embedded video compression with error resilience and error concealment using three dimensional SPIHT (3-D SPIHT) algorithm. We use a new method for partitioning the wavelet coefficients into spatio-temporal (s-t) blocks to get higher error resilience and to support error concealment.

Multiple-reference temporal error concealment
ISCAS 2001. The 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (Cat. No.01CH37196), 2002This paper demonstrates the benefits of extending the temporal error concealment process to more than one reference frame. In this context, the paper proposes two multiple-reference temporal concealment techniques. Both techniques are extensions of the single-reference motion field interpolation (MFI) technique.

Syntax and discontinuity based error concealment
ISCAS'99. Proceedings of the 1999 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems VLSI (Cat. No.99CH36349), 2003In this paper we extend a joint source/channel coding scheme (syntax based error concealment (SBEC)) for MPEG2 compressed video, over noisy channels. The extension is called syntax and discontinuity based error concealment (SDBEC) which uses a smoothness criteria in the uncompressed domain to improve the concealment.

Temporal error concealment for video transmission
2004 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME) (IEEE Cat. No.04TH8763), 2005In this paper, we propose a temporal error concealment algorithm for video transmission in an error-prone environment. The error concealment algorithm employed an edge detection algorithm and progressive median motion vector concealment. First, the edges are detected and concealed portion by portion.

Geometric-Based Error Concealment for Concealing Transmission Errors and Improving Visual Quality
IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 2006Block-based video coding algorithms such as the JPEG and MPEG are widely used in video communication systems over lossy channels. However, because current video communication channels do not guarantee visual quality of service during video transmission, random bit errors or erasure errors in the transmission data often occur, resulting in error blocks.

Motion characteristic differentiated error concealment
Multimedia Tools and Applications, 2011In this paper, we propose a brand-new motion characteristic differentiated error concealment (MDEC) method based on motion field transfer. Firstly, the FMO checkerboard pattern is used at the encoder, so as to prevent MBs of a large area getting lost. Then at the decoder, Greedy Spread Motion Region Extraction (GSMRE) method is used to distinguish low ...

An improved DMVE temporal error concealment
2008 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2008During video transmission over error-prone networks, the compressed bit stream is often corrupted by channel errors which may cause the video quality degrading suddenly. In this paper, we present a novel temporal error concealment technique as a post-processing tool at the decoder side for recovering the lost information.
