A Mixed Finite Element Method for the Multi-Term Time-Fractional Reaction–Diffusion Equations
In this work, a fully discrete mixed finite element (MFE) scheme is designed to solve the multi-term time-fractional reaction–diffusion equations with variable coefficients by using the well-known L1 formula and the Raviart–Thomas MFE space.

High-dimensional bolstered error estimation [PDF]
Abstract Motivation: In small-sample settings, bolstered error estimation has been shown to perform better than cross-validation and competitively with bootstrap with regard to various criteria. The key issue for bolstering performance is the variance setting for the bolstering kernel.

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Estimation of parameter of proportion in Binomial Distribution Using Adjusted Prior Distribution
Historically, various methods were suggested for the estimation of Bernoulli and Binomial distributions parameter. One of the suggested methods is the Bayesian method, which is based on employing prior distribution.

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

We consider a system of 1 + 2 dimensional partial differential equations which describes dynamics of edge‐emitting broad area semiconductor lasers and amplifiers. The given problem is defined on the unbounded domain.

Model Selection and Error Estimation [PDF]
We study model selection strategies based on penalized empirical loss minimization. We point out a tight relationship between error estimation and data-based complexity penalization: any good error estimate may be converted into a data-based penalty function and the performance of the estimate is governed by the quality of
