The Error in ‘Error Rate’: Why Error Rates Are So Needed, Yet So Elusive
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2020AbstractEstablishing error rates is crucial for knowing how well one is performing, determining whether improvement is needed, measuring whether interventions are effective, as well as for providing transparency. However, the flurry of activities in establishing error rates for the forensic sciences has largely overlooked some fundamental issues that ...

Bit Error Rate for NOMA Network
IEEE Communications Letters, 2020This letter examines the bit error rate (BER) performance of downlink non-orthogonal multiple access networks for binary phase-shift keying modulation. Exact BER expression is derived for each user in closed-form under additive white Gaussian noise and ...

Speech recognition became a popular task during the last decade. Automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems are used in many fields: virtual assistants, call-center automation, device speech interfaces, etc. Each application defines its own measure of quality.

Ambiguous notation is a powerful tool developed to deal with the complexity of mathematics without sacrificing clarity or conciseness. In the mechanized parsing of ambiguous terms, a disambiguation algorithm can be used to provide the system with the intelligence necessary to select valid interpretations for the overloaded symbols received in input.

Quantum error correction below the surface code threshold
NatureQuantum error correction1, 2, 3–4 provides a path to reach practical quantum computing by combining multiple physical qubits into a logical qubit, in which the logical error rate is suppressed exponentially as more qubits are added.

Benchmarking and medication error rates
American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, 2016NCC MERP and ISMP provide exemplary leadership in this area, including important policy suggestions. To be effective, benchmarking must include comparative measures of performance that are based on modifiable risk factors that cause the performance to suffer.

A practical consideration that has so far received little attention is the correcting power of the coding required to do the job. In other words, if we need a certain improvement in channel performance, how many bits must we be able to correct? This aspect of the subject gets quite mathematical, so I shall give only a simplified view of the problem in ...
