Post-Eruption Deformation Processes Measured Using ALOS-1 and UAVSAR InSAR at Pacaya Volcano, Guatemala

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2016
Pacaya volcano is a persistently active basaltic cone complex located in the Central American Volcanic Arc in Guatemala. In May of 2010, violent Volcanic Explosivity Index-3 (VEI-3) eruptions caused significant topographic changes to the edifice ...

Solar filament eruptions and energetic particle events

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1986
The 1981 December 5 solar filament eruption that is associated with an energetic (E greater than 50 MeV) particle event observed at 1 AU. The eruption was photographed in H-alpha and was observed by the Solwind whitelight coronagraph on P78-1. It occurred well away from any solar active region and was not associated with an impulsive microwave burst ...

Previously undocumented regional variability in crab‐eating macaque skull sexual dimorphism and its implications for biological and morphometric studies

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract In a large sample of adult crab‐eating macaques, we quantified sexual dimorphism in size, shape, and covariance across the whole skull and among anatomical regions of the cranium and mandible. All regions showed significant mean sex differences, but the magnitude of size and shape dimorphism varied substantially.

Dynamics of Reconnection Nanojets in Eruptive and Confined Solar Flares

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Recent observations reveal small-scale reconnection-driven plasma ejections, often termed nanojets, triggered by magnetic field interactions at slight misalignment angles. These fast, collimated plasma ejections are ∼1.5 Mm long and ∼0.5 Mm wide. In this

Volcanic unrest at Hakone volcano after the 2015 phreatic eruption: reactivation of a ruptured hydrothermal system?

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2021
Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, volcanic unrest has occurred every 2–5 years at Hakone volcano. After the 2015 eruption, unrest activity changed significantly in terms of seismicity and geochemistry. Like the pre- and co-eruptive unrest,

Redescription of the Triassic cynodont Cistecynodon parvus and reassessment of its phylogeny

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Cynodontia is an important subclade of Therapsida that first occurred in the late Permian. It includes extinct subclades which are the non‐mammaliaform cynodonts and Mammaliaformes, with the latter ultimately giving rise to crown mammals. The systematics of non‐mammaliaform cynodonts has been extensively studied and is relatively well‐resolved,

Plasma Characteristics of Active Region Footpoints before Eruptive and Confined Flares

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Solar flares are powerful, explosive events that occur in solar active regions (ARs). They are typically classified as either eruptive or confined, depending on whether they are associated with coronal mass ejections.

Early stages of tooth development in the harbor porpoise Phocoena phocoena

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Here we describe the stages of tooth development in toothed whales on the basis of the harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena). The aim of the study was to find out whether these stages are identical to those of other mammals analyzed so far although toothed whales are homodont and monophyodont.

Eruptive Styles Recognition Using High Temporal Resolution Geostationary Infrared Satellite Data

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
The high temporal resolution of the Spinning Enhanced Visible and InfraRed Imager (SEVIRI) instrument aboard Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) provides the opportunity to investigate eruptive processes and discriminate different styles of volcanic ...

Born this way: Does variation in perinatal limb bone morphology predict adult locomotor repertoire in primates?

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Primates show a high degree of locomotor diversity that engenders similar variance in limb bone cross‐sectional geometry and bending strength: leaping primates have stronger hindlimb bones whereas suspensory species have stronger forelimb bones.
