Quorum sensing in Erwinia species

Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2006
The term quorum sensing (QS) refers to the ability of bacteria to regulate gene expression according to the accumulation of signalling molecules that are made by every cell in the population. The erwiniae group of bacteria are often phytopathogens and the expression of a number of their important virulence determinants and secondary metabolites is ...

Endophthalmitis Caused by an Erwinia Species

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1977
A 14-year-old boy developed exogenous endophthalmitis presumably caused by an Erwinia species. To our knowledge, this is the firs reported case of endophthalmitis caused by an Erwinia species, which has been considered pathogenic for only the last ten years. The endophthalmitis developed after a piece of wood penetrated the patient's sclera.

REGULATION OF PECTINOLYSIS IN ERWINIA CHRYSANTHEMI

Annual Review of Microbiology, 1996
Erwinia chrysanthemi is an enterobacterium that causes various plant diseases. Its pathogenicity results from the secretion of pectinolytic enzymes responsible for the disorganization of the plant cell wall. The E. chrysanthemi strain 3937 produces two pectin methylesterases, at least seven pectate lyases, a polygalacturonase, and a pectin lyase.

Defective Lysogeny in Erwinia carotovora

Microbiology, 2002
The electron microscopic study of several Erwinia carotovora strains showed that the SOS-induced cells of this pectolytic phytopathogenic bacterium produce particular phage parts (tails, heads, and baseplates) but do not assemble them into fully functional phage particles. E.

Erwinia, a Plant Pathogen

2014
The ability to produce a wider range of enzymes or isoenzymes more rapidly and in larger quantities than that of pectolytic saprophytic microorganisms enables Erwinia species to invade living plants. Pectin is the major component of primary plant cell walls.

2010
For the first time, it is shown that the expression products of defective prophages are typical not only of the defective lysogenic systems of phytopathogenic Erwinia carotovora, but also of epiphytic bacterium Pantoea agglomerans. It is established that viral particles like phage???s capsids are packing a bacterial DNA, whose size is determined by the

The study of a plasmid composition of 54 Erwinia carotovora???s strains of different origins shows that 30% of these strains contain different extrachromosomal DNAs. These genetic elements belong to four discrete size classes. For the first time, the correlation of strains???
