Evolutionary insights from Erwinia amylovora genomics

Journal of Biotechnology, 2011
Evolutionary genomics is coming into focus with the recent availability of complete sequences for many bacterial species. A hypothesis on the evolution of virulence factors in the plant pathogen Erwinia amylovora, the causative agent of fire blight, was generated using comparative genomics with the genomes E.

EXOPOLYSACCHARIDES IN PATHOGENICITY OF ERWINIA AMYLOVORA

Acta Horticulturae, 1993
The genetics of the two major exopolysaccharides of Erwinia amylovora, levan and amylovoran, were determined. Transposon mutants lacking levan synthesis were fully virulent on immature pears and showed retarded fireblight symptoms on shoots of pear seedlings.

Inhibition of Erwinia amylovora by Bacillus nakamurai

Current Microbiology, 2020
A variety of potential inhibitors were tested for the first time for the suppression of Erwinia amylovora, the causal agent of fire blight in apples and pears. Strain variability was evident in susceptibility to inhibitors among five independently isolated virulent strains of E. amylovora.

Characterization of hns genes from Erwinia amylovora

Molecular Genetics and Genomics, 2006
The small basic histone-like protein H-NS is known for bacteria to attenuate virulence of several animal pathogens. An hns homologue from E. amylovora was identified by complementing an E. coli hns-mutant strain with a cosmid library from E. amylovora.

Erwinia amylovora (fireblight).

2021
Abstract The long distance spread of fire blight is a rare event which in most cases seems to be the result of plants or plant tissues being moved across the oceans. Short distance spread is the result of the characteristics of the pathogen, especially its ability to produce an exudate (bacteria embedded in exopolysaccharides) which is easily ...
