“Ticking Bomb”: The Impact of Climate Change on the Incidence of Lyme Disease
Lyme disease (LD) is the most common tick‐borne disease in North America. It is caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and transmitted to humans by blacklegged ticks, Ixodes scapularis. The life cycle of the LD vector, I. scapularis, usually takes two to three years to complete and goes through three stages, all of which are dependent on environmental factors.

Neurological and immunological dysfunction in two patients with Bartonella henselae bacteremia
Recently, BAPGM enrichment culture has documented Bartonella bacteremia in previously healthy, “nonimmunocompromised” patients following arthropod exposures. Neurobartonellosis should be among the differential diagnoses for patients with persistent or recurrent neurological symptoms of undetermined etiology.

Two cases of erythema chronicum migrans.
島根県在住の64才, 74才女子にみられた慢性遊走性紅斑の2例を報告した。2症例ともダニ様の虫体による皮膚咬着の既往があり, 刺入部と思われる部位の硬結部切除により著明な皮疹の改善をみた。74才女子例においては組織学的に真皮内に取り残したと思われるダニの虫体の一部を発見した。本症の本邦報告例は自験例を含め19例を数え, ダニ刺咬の既往の明らかなものは5例である。ダニ刺咬と本症の発症原因および疫学について若干の考えを述べた。

Lyme disease is a tick‐borne disease with multiple organ failures, and systemic disorders. Dramatic change becomes apparent in the chronic phase of the disease. Chronic fatigue syndrome, lapse of concentration, depression, joint pain, and muscle pain are a few, but major clinical symptoms characterizing the disease.
