Effect of Cyanate on Erythrocyte Deformability [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1974
Abstract Cyanate is undergoing study as a drug to prevent occlusive sickle cell crises. Carbamylation of hemoglobin S increases its oxygen affinity, thereby decreasing its tendency to aggregate at low oxygen tensions. The cell membrane has also been shown to be carbamylated.

Biomimetic Nanovaccine Integrating Dendritic Cell Exosomes with Tumor Cell Membranes for Sustained Prophylaxis Against Glioblastoma

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We have developed DEX/GM, an all‐natural, personalizable hybrid vaccine designed by coating dendritic cell‐derived exosomes (DEX) onto tumor cell membranes (GM) for sustained prophylaxis against glioblastoma (GBM). ABSTRACT Glioblastoma (GBM), one of the most aggressive and lethal brain tumors, remains incurable with a poor clinical prognosis.

Vitamin C supplementation attenuates oxidative stress and improves erythrocyte deformability in cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass

open access: yesChinese Journal of Physiology, 2022
Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) depletes endogenous Vitamin C and generates oxidative stress in cardiac surgery. This study aimed to clarify whether Vitamin C supplementation reduces oxidant production and improves erythrocyte deformability in cardiac ...

Effect of a+ -thalassaemia on episodes of fever due to malaria and other causes: a communitybased cohort study in Tanzania [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background It is controversial to what degree a+-thalassaemia protects against episodes of uncomplicated malaria and febrile disease due to infections other than Plasmodium. Methods In Tanzania, in children aged 6-60 months and height-for-age z-score

Decreased deformability of erythrocytes from smokers [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1981
Abstract The deformability of erythrocytes from smoking and non-smoking human subjects was examined by filtration through 3-mu pores and capillary viscometry of cell suspensions. In both cases, small but significant differences were found between the two groups that are consistent with a reduction in the surface area-to-volume ratio and ...

Photon Avalanching Nanoparticles: The Next Generation of Upconverting Nanomaterials?

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective outlines the mechanistic foundations that enable photon‐avalanche (PA) behavior in lanthanide nanomaterials and contrasts them with emerging application spaces and forward‐looking design strategies. By bridging threshold engineering, energy‐transfer dynamics, and materials engineering, we provide a coherent roadmap for advancing the ...

Aquaporin-1-Mediated Effects of Low Level He-Ne Laser Irradiation on Human Erythrocytes

open access: yesInternational Journal of Photoenergy, 2012
The role of membrane aquaporin-1 (APQ-1) in the photobiomodulation (PBM) on erythrocyte deformability will be studied in this paper with human dehydrated erythrocytes as echinocytic shape alterations lead to decreased cellular deformability.

Blood Rheological Properties in Blood Loss (An experimental study)

open access: yesОбщая реаниматология, 2014
Blood loss is a complex pathological process with the mechanism that has not been fully unstudied. Blood rheology is a particular link that is involved in blood losses. Objective: to perform a comprehensive study of blood rheological proper ties, such as

Pengaruh Bekam terhadap Peningkatan Deformabilitas Eritrosit pada Perokok [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Erythrocyte deformability is the elasticity of erythrocyte form during its course through microvasculature to adjust to the diameter of microvasculature, and it can spontaneously return to its original form without changes in shape and function.

Single-cell evaluation of red blood cell bio-mechanical and nano-structural alterations upon chemically induced oxidative stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Erythroid cells, specifically red blood cells (RBCs), are constantly exposed to highly reactive radicals during cellular gaseous exchange. Such exposure often exceeds the cells' innate anti-oxidant defense systems, leading to progressive damage and ...
