Interactions Between Aerolysin, Erythrocytes, and Erythrocyte Membranes [PDF]
Aerolysin, a hemolytic and lethal exotoxin of Aeromonas hydrophila , was analyzed for amino acids. Assuming 8 histidine residues/mol, the purified toxic protein has, by summation, a molecular weight of 49,000, a value in agreement with earlier estimates by other methods.

Acetylcholinesterase in the Erythrocyte Membrane
Acetylcholinesterase (AchE) in erythrocytes is one of the typical extraneural AchEs. Its activity is high in human erythrocytes. It has been known that the enzyme is present only in the membrane in erythrocytes and that it is localized on the outer side of the membrane.

Abnormalities of the Erythrocyte Membrane [PDF]
Primary abnormalities of the erythrocyte membrane are characterized by clinical, laboratory, and genetic heterogeneity. Among this group, hereditary spherocytosis patients are more likely to experience symptomatic anemia. Treatment of hereditary spherocytosis with splenectomy is curative in most patients.

Studies on interactions of exported "plasmodium falciparum" membrane proteins [PDF]
Responsible for about 700’000 annual deaths worldwide, malaria today is still one of the major health problems in developing countries. The most deadly form of human malaria called malaria tropica is caused by the apicomplexan parasite Plasmodium ...

The erythrocyte membrane in kwashiorkor [PDF]
1. Erythrocytes from Ugandan children with untreated kwashiorkor had membranes containing larger amounts of lecithin than erythrocytes collected during the recovery phase.2. The passive permeability of the erythrocyte membrane to glycerol and thiourea was reduced in kwashiorkor and returned to a more normal value on treatment.3.

Supplementation of iron alone and combined with vitamins improves haematological status, erythrocyte membrane fluidity and oxidative stress in anaemic pregnant women [PDF]
Pregnancy is a condition exhibiting increased susceptibility to oxidative stress, and Fe plays a central role in generating harmful oxygen species. The objective of the present study is to investigate the changes in haematological status, oxidative ...

Imaging morphological details and pathological differences of red blood cells using tapping-mode AFM [PDF]
The surface topography of red blood cells (RBCs) was investigated under nearphysiological conditions using atomic force microscopy (AFM). An immobilization protocol was established where RBCs are coupled via molecular bonds of the membrane glycoproteins ...

An overview about erythrocyte membrane [PDF]
In the sixties and seventies, erythrocytes or red blood cells (RBCs) were extensively studied. Much has been learnt particularly concerning their metabolism and gas transporter function. In the past decade, the use of new approaches and methodologies, such as proteomic analysis, has contributed for a renewed interest on the erythrocyte.
