Phytocomponents from Anacardium occidentale, Psidium guajava, and Terminalia catappa altered membrane osmotic stability of sickle erythrocytes

open access: yesBeni-Suef University Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences, 2020
Background The present study identified, quantified, and characterized the combinations of phytocomponents from fractionated leaf extracts of Anacardium occidentale, Psidium guajava, and Terminalia catappa that stabilized sickle erythrocyte membrane ...

Development and production of allogeneic cord blood‐derived red blood cell concentrates for transfusion to extremely preterm neonates, the All‐Cord study

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Extremely preterm neonates often require red blood cell (RBC) transfusions derived from adult donors. These transfusions introduce adult hemoglobin into a neonatal hematopoietic system dominated by fetal hemoglobin (HbF), shifting the oxygen‐dissociation curve and increasing oxygen delivery to immature tissues.

Phenotypic drift in osmotic fragility of Sahel goat erythrocytes associated with variability of median fragility

open access: yes, 2015
A typical mammalian erythrocyte fragility phenotype (EFP) exhibits a sigmoidal curve of the dependence of fragilities (% haemolysis) on hypotonic saline concentrations, but the goat EFP tends to be hyperbolic.

Codocytosis in the Dog: 345 Cases (2020–2022)

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Codocytes, or target cells, are a morphologic variation of erythrocytes characterized by increased membrane surface area relative to volume. In dogs, codocytosis is frequently noted on blood smear evaluation, but its clinical significance remains poorly understood. Objectives To characterize the clinical conditions associated with

Compararive osmotic fragility of erythrocyte genotypes (HBAA, HBAS and HBSS) of male subjects administered antimalarial drugs

open access: yes, 2009
In vivo study was carried out to ascertain the mean corpuscular fragility (MCF) index and corresponding stability of three erythrocyte genotypes (HbAA, HbAS and HbSS) in male volunteers, before (control; t=0 hour) and after (tests; i.e.

Effect of vitamin E therapy on oxidative stress and erythrocyte osmotic fragility in patients on peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis

open access: yes, 2006
Background: Several medications have been tested with the aim of decreasing oxidative stress and erythrocyte osmotic fragility in patients on dialysis. The aim of the present study was to assess the influence of vitamin E therapy on oxidative stress and ...

The use of the rapid osmotic fragility test as an additional test to diagnose canine immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Diagnosing canine immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia (IMHA) is often challenging because all currently available tests have their limitations. Dogs with IMHA often have an increased erythrocyte osmotic fragility (OF), a characteristic that is

The Effect of Chronic Levetiracetam Use on Erythrocyte Deformability

open access: yesNeurological Sciences and Neurophysiology
Background: The inhibition of carbonic anhydrase (CA) isoenzymes is one of the targets in the development of new antiepileptics. Levetiracetam (LEV) is a new-generation antiepileptic drug frequently used in pediatric patients.
