The rheological properties of blood play an important role in regulating blood flow in micro and macro circulation. In thalassemia syndromes red blood cells exhibit altered hemodynamic properties that facilitate microcirculatory diseases: increased ...

Sublytic Terminal Complement Components Induce Eryptosis in Autoimmune Haemolytic Anaemia Related to IgM Autoantibodies [PDF]
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Eryptosis, the suicidal death of red blood cells (RBCs), is characterized by phosphatidylserine (PS) exposure at the cell surface. It can be catalysed by a variety of abnormal conditions and diseases.

Leucoreduction of blood components. an effective way to increase blood safety? [PDF]
Over the past 30 years, it has been demonstrated that removal of white blood cells from blood components is effective in preventing some adverse reactions such as febrile non-haemolytic transfusion reactions, immunisation against human leucocyte antigens

Numerical Model for the Determination of Erythrocyte Mechanical Properties and Wall Shear Stress in vivo From Intravital Microscopy. [PDF]
The mechanical properties and deformability of Red Blood Cells (RBCs) are important determinants of blood rheology and microvascular hemodynamics. The objective of this study is to quantify the mechanical properties and wall shear stress experienced by ...

A microsieve for leukocyte depletion of erythrocyte concentrates [PDF]
A new ultra thin filtration membrane has been used for leukocyte removal from erythrocyte concentrates. This filtration membrane, an Aquamarijn Microsieve(R), has a high pore density and a narrow pore size distribution and shows good separation behaviour.

ABSTRACT Self‐healing materials represent a paradigm shift in designing functional biomedical devices for drug delivery, tissue regeneration, and 3D bioprinting. However, their clinical translation remains limited by challenges such as insufficient mechanical strength, potential cytotoxicity from chemical modifications, and complex activation ...

Validation of a Polymerase Chain Reaction technique for Kidd blood group genotyping [PDF]
The Kidd blood group antigens, Jkª and Jkᵇ , are two of the main surface markers which are found on the membrane of red blood cells. The determination of whether a donor or a recipient has the Jkª and/or the Jkᵇ antigens is crucially important to ...

Tracking of [14C]Polystyrene Nanoplastics in Pregnant Mice
This study investigates [14C]polystyrene nanoplastic ([14C]PS) translocation in late‐stage pregnant mice after intranasal (0.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD12, GD14, and GD16, n = 6) and intravenous administration (1.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD16, n = 6). 14C‐radiolabel allows quantitative tracking of unmodified polystyrene nanoplastics.

The Effect of Transfusions of Erythrocytes on Untreated Pernicious Anemia [PDF]
Abstract 1. Three patients with untreated pernicious anemia were transfused with packed erythrocytes to produce a normal hematocrit before they were treated with vitamin B12. One patient with untreated pernicious anemia was transfused with 250 cc. plasma prior to therapy with vitamin B12. No significant changes were noted in this patient
