Time‐Controlled Dual Targeting to Program Systemic and Intercellular Transfer of Therapeutic Effects
Aspirin‐liposomes loaded onto monocytes enable inflammation‐triggered targeting and efficient hand‐over of aspirin to inflamed cells. Monocytes uptake a significant portion of aspirin‐liposomes, prolonging therapeutic action. This approach enhances anti‐inflammatory effects through intercellular transfer, demonstrating a translational strategy for ...

Red Blood Cells as Potential Repositories of MicroRNAs in the Circulatory System
The amount of erythrocyte-derived microRNAs (miRNAs) represents the majority of miRNAs expressed in whole blood. miR-451, miR-144, and miR-486, which are abundant in red blood cells (RBCs), are involved in the process of erythropoiesis and disease ...

Platelet Inhibition by Nitrite Is Dependent on Erythrocytes and Deoxygenation
Background Nitrite is a nitric oxide (NO) metabolite in tissues and blood, which can be converted to NO under hypoxia to facilitate tissue perfusion. Although nitrite is known to cause vasodilation following its reduction to NO, the effect of nitrite on ...

Malaria vaccines 1985-2005: a full circle?
Few who were actively engaged in malaria vaccine research 20 years ago (including myself) would have imagined that, in 2005, there would still be a prediction of a 10-20-year horizon before vaccines become part of malaria-control strategies.

7-Keto-Cholesterol and Cholestan-3beta, 5alpha, 6beta-Triol Induce Eryptosis through Distinct Pathways Leading to NADPH Oxidase and Nitric Oxide Synthase Activation [PDF]
BACKGROUND/AIMS: We showed that patho-physiological concentrations of either 7-keto-cholesterol (7-KC), or cholestane-3beta, 5alpha, 6beta-triol (TRIOL) caused the eryptotic death of human red blood cells (RBC), strictly dependent on the early production

This review highlights recent advances in engineering artificial antigen‐presenting cells (aAPCs) as alternatives to dendritic cells for T cell expansion. Key design principles inspired by the immunological synapse are discussed, with emphasis on strategies for polyclonal and antigen‐specific T cell expansion.

Coil planet centrifugation as a means for small particle separation [PDF]
The coil planet centrifuge uses a centrifugal force field to provide separation of particles based on differences in sedimentation rates by flow through a rotating coiled tube. Three main separations are considered: (1) single phase fresh sheep and human

Lactate-proton co-transport and its contribution to interstitial acidification during hypoxia in isolated rat spinal roots [PDF]
Exposure of nervous tissue to hypoxia results in interstitial acidification. There is evidence for concomitant decrease in extracellular pH to the increase in tissue lactate.
