Validation of a fractional model for erythrocyte sedimentation rate [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We present the validation of a recent fractional mathematical model for erythrocyte sedimentation proposed by Sharma et al. \cite{GMR}. The model uses a Caputo fractional derivative to build a time fractional diffusion equation suitable to predict blood sedimentation rates.

Artesunate reduces but does not prevent posttreatment transmission of Plasmodium falciparum to Anopheles gambiae.

open access: yes, 2001
Combination therapy that includes artemisinin derivatives cures most falciparum malaria infections. Lowering transmission by reducing gametocyte infectivity would be an additional benefit.

Diffusion-limited Reaction of Free Nitric Oxide with Erythrocytes*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1998
Concentration changes of nitric oxide (NO) were monitored using an NO-sensitive electrode in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) with either free oxyhemoglobin (oxyHb) or red blood cells (RBCs).

RBC Membrane‐Camouflaged Nanosystem‐Mediated Synergistic Drug Combination for Enhanced Anti‐Tumor Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An RBC membrane camouflaged, cell‐penetrating peptides R8‐based drug delivery system is constructed to achieve a synergistic combination of natural compounds triptolide (TP) and celastrol (Cel), inducing tumor cell apoptosis, reducing tumor metastasis invasion and triggering autophagy disorder in breast cancer and liver cancer.

Quantitative and qualitative changes of cellular elements in blood system in severe posthemorrhagic anemia (review) [PDF]

open access: yesСаратовский научно-медицинский журнал, 2011
The article deals with the study of posthemorrhagic anemia. It points out that all the modern approaches to treatment of post hemorrhagic anemia are limited by analysis of quantitative parameters of red blood.

Glycocalyx Cleavage Boosts Erythrocytes Aggregation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The glycocalyx is a complex layer of carbohydrate and protein molecules that surrounds the cell membrane of many types of mammalian cells. It serves several important functions, including cell adhesion and communication, and maintain cell shape and stability, especially in the case of erythrocytes.

Malaria vaccines 1985-2005: a full circle?

open access: yes, 2005
Few who were actively engaged in malaria vaccine research 20 years ago (including myself) would have imagined that, in 2005, there would still be a prediction of a 10-20-year horizon before vaccines become part of malaria-control strategies.

Geometric Adjustment of T Cell‐Sensitive Nanorobots for Enhanced Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
For the long‐term use of live dendritic cell (DC)‐based vaccines, nano bone marrow dendritic cell (BMDC) originated T cell activators (nano‐BOTs) are synthesized. The geometric properties of nanoparticles are precisely modulated, enhancing their stability and T cell activation capacity.
