Design and optimization of processes for recovering rare earth elements from end‐of‐life permanent magnets

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Recovery of rare earth elements (REEs) from end‐of‐life (EOL) products represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen the domestic supply chain for rare earth elements. This work presents a superstructure‐based optimization framework for finding the most economical processing pathway for different EOL rare earth permanent magnets (REPMs ...

Analysis of close encounters with Ganymede and Callisto using a genetic n-body algorithm

open access: yes, 2018
In this work we describe a genetic algorithm which is used in order to study orbits of minor bodies in the frames of close encounters. We find that the algorithm in combination with standard orbital numerical integrators can be used as a good proxy for ...

Mapping Intimate Partner Financial Abuse Across Public and Private Systems

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article maps the ways that intimate partner financial abuse presents, and the range of public and private entities involved in its perpetration. It reports on an analysis of submissions by individuals to the Australian parliamentary inquiry into the Financial Services Regulatory Framework in Relation to Financial Abuse.

On the Low Energy Decrease in Galactic Cosmic Ray Secondary/Primary Ratios [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Galactic cosmic ray (GCR) secondary/primary ratios such as B/C and (Sc+Ti+V)/Fe are commonly used to determine the mean amount of interstellar material through which cosmic rays travel before escaping from the Galaxy (Λ_(esc)).

A Cost‐Effective Hybrid Method For Homogeneous Matrix Coating in Matrix‐Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Mass Spectrometry Imaging Using Simultaneous Spin and Spray Deposition

open access: yesAnalysis &Sensing, EarlyView.
This study introduces an in‐house spin coater for matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging, providing homogeneous matrix deposition via simultaneous spray and spin. The approach yields reproducible signals and clear metabolite distributions in complex tissues.

Blocking Former Sex Offenders from Online Social Networks: Is this a Due Process Violation? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Extremum seeking control (ESC) is a classical adaptive control method aimed at locating and tracking optimal operating conditions in complex non-linear plants. Early results on ESC were restricted to plants that could bedescribed by Wiener or Hammerstein

Evolutionary tradeoff and equilibrium in an aquatic predator-prey system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Due to the conventional distinction between ecological (rapid) and evolutionary (slow)timescales, ecological and population models to date have typically ignored the effects of evolution.

The THESEUS Space Mission and the Infrared Telescope Calibration Unit

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Transient High‐Energy Sky and Early Universe Surveyor (THESEUS) is an ESA M7 mission concept currently in Phase A, designed to exploit gamma‐ray bursts to probe the early Universe while advancing multi‐messenger and time‐domain astrophysics. To achieve its ambitious goals, THESEUS will combine wide‐band x‐ray and gamma‐ray monitors with an

The Stellar UV Background at z<1.5 and the Baryon Density of Photoionized Gas [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We use new studies of the cosmic evolution of star-forming galaxies to estimate the production rate of ionizing photons from hot, massive stars at low and intermediate redshifts.

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.
