Laboratory ESCA imaging

OSA Annual Meeting, 1993
This paper, being a presentation of laboratory imaging ESCA instrumentation, will begin with a brief historical review of the various methods that have been used in the past to generate X-ray induced photoelectron images of surfaces using fairly standard laboratory ESCA equipment.

High-Sensitivity ESCA Instrument

Advances in X-ray Analysis, 1972
AbstractA new ESCA (electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis) instrument has been developed to provide high sensitivity and efficient operation for laboratory analysis of composition and chemical bonding in very thin surface layers of solid samples.

ESCA applied to liquids

Journal of Electron Spectroscopy and Related Phenomena, 1973
Abstract The conditions for applying ESCA on liquid samples are discussed. A “liquid beam” technique is developed which meets the various requirements. The first spectrum of a liquid is presented, namely from formamide. It is shown that one can adjust the liquid beam so that a complete separation between the ESCA signals from the liquid and the ...

ESCA for microelectronic applications

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1983
As the dimensions of microelectronic devices continue to shrink, the use of surface sensitive analysis techniques to characterize thin film structures continues to grow. These techniques including: ESCA or XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), AES (Auger electron spectroscopy), SIMS (secondary ion mass spectroscopy) and ISS (ion scattering ...

The Esca Disease Complex

2008
Esca is a grapevine wood disease that seriously affects vine yield and longevity. Our knowledge of this disease and its causes has changed profoundly in recent years, as it has become clear that esca in fact comprises a number of distinct diseases and that the main fungal agents (primarily vascular pathogens) invade the vines not only through wounds ...

ESCA‐Untersuchungen an Prussiaten

CaF2: An ESCA Study

1988
This paper describes two observations made on CaF2 during electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA) studies. The first observation is that an ion-etched CaF2 surface adsorbs several layers of water even in an ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) chamber (P ∼ 2×10-10 torr).

New Applications of ESCA

1984
The importance of strong specific interactions in polymer adhesion (eg., covalent bonding, acid-base interaction) is well-known. However, these interactions are difficult to study directly, particularly for multifunctional surfaces. Derivatisation techniques have been developed which allow X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ESCA) to quantify functional ...

ESCA in Polymer Spectroscopy

1984
Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis (or Applications) — ESCA — is based on the following principle1, 2): monochromatic short-wavelength radiation is used in order to detach electrons from the sample, the kinetic energy of the electrons being measured by means of an electron analyser.
