Sugar provisioning increases parasitoid numbers in agroecosystems but may not reduce pest densities: A meta‐analysis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 5, May 2026.
Our findings demonstrate that providing sugar sources reliably supports parasitoid populations and parasitism rate but does not systematically translate into improved pest suppression or yield gains. These results suggest that, for economic and practical reasons, sugar inputs at the edge of cultivated fields should be favoured.

Landscape features predict broad‐scale seed rain patterns across fragments of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 5, May 2026.
Along with precipitation, forest cover emerges as a fundamental driver of alpha and beta diversity in the seed rain. This highlights the role of habitat amount at the landscape level over patch‐level features, like patch size, for seed dispersal. However, increased seed density can be related to higher dispersal rates in forest borders.

BIEN: A biodiversity informatics ecosystem advancing open and reproducible workflows for plant observation, plot and trait data

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1556-1584, May 2026.
Abstract The rapid expansion of biodiversity data presents new opportunities to understand and forecast biosphere dynamics. However, disparate and dispersed data, taxonomic and geographic inconsistencies, pervasive quality issues, and a lack of reproducable workflows hinder synthesis, introduce biases and limit accurate assessment of biodiversity ...

fastbioclim: An R package for creating custom‐time bioclimatic and derived environmental summary variables

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1585-1594, May 2026.
Abstract Bioclimatic variables, widely used in ecological and biogeographical studies, are typically derived from 30‐year averages of monthly data (e.g. 1971–2000). Unfortunately, the use of these long‐term averaged variables often creates a temporal mismatch with the observational data collected, which potentially undermines how environmental ...

Integrating biodiversity and business: Emerging methods driving the nature economy

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1326-1335, May 2026.
Abstract Biodiversity is increasingly recognised as a material (i.e. significant) risk to corporate value creation due to links with climate risk, land use and social equity, and through growing engagement with frameworks, such as the Taskforce on Nature‐related Financial Disclosure and Science‐Based Targets Network.

Microhabitat Variation in Feeding Places Shape Ant‐Hemiptera Interactions Within Cocoa Agroecosystems

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 3, May 2026.
Ant‐hemipteran mutualistic networks in cocoa crops maintain a stable structural organization across different microhabitats (flowers, leaves, and fruits) and management types. This stability is not intrinsic to the network, but rather an emergent result of the behavior of a few generalist ant species acting as structural buffers.

Validation of a statistic algorithm applied to LES model - Part I: First and second order statistics [PDF]

open access: yes
The main objective of this work is to develop a statistical algorithm to process the data generated by the Large-Eddy-Simulation model (LES) in real time. The simulations analyzed here were based on a convective, neutral and stable periods.
