Peptidoglycan Synthesis and Rod Shape Maintenance in Mycobacteria
Bacteria surround themselves with a cell wall whose foundation is a layer called peptidoglycan. Peptidoglycan is a mesh of linear glycan strands that are linked together by short peptide side chains.

Cyclic β‐1,2‐glucan (CβG)‐associated solute‐binding protein of type I ABC transporter was originally identified in Chloroflexus aurantiacus, a phototrophic bacterium. Crystal structures in complex with CβGs revealed unique binding modes that are fundamentally distinct from that of the short β‐1,2‐glucooligosaccharides‐binding protein.

Structural Analysis of a Specialized Type III Secretion System Peptidoglycan-cleaving Enzyme*
Background: Bacterial virulence-associated type III secretion system (T3SS) assembly requires a dedicated enzyme to penetrate peptidoglycan (PG).Results: We structurally characterized a T3SS PG-lytic enzyme, identified catalytically important residues ...

Xylan, the second most abundant plant cell wall polysaccharide, is degraded by β‐xylanases and β‐xylosidases. Here, we present the 2.65 Å cryo‐EM structure of Enterobacter cloacae β‐xylosidase (EcXyl43, GH43) and the 2.4 Å X‐ray structure of its inactive F507A mutant.

ABSTRACT Aquaculture systems suffer a wide range of losses, mostly due to bacterial disease outbreaks, and the use of disinfectants is a routine practice for controlling the spread of pathogenic organisms globally. Including Aeromonas hydrophila, Streptococcus agalactiae and Edwardsiella tarda, implicated for natural disease outbreaks and economic ...

Hulless barley resists the newly identified sheath rot disease caused by the necrotrophic fungal pathogen Dactylobotrys graminicola by releasing coniferyl aldehyde, a natural compound that disrupts energy production in the fungus. ABSTRACT Dactylobotrys graminicola (Dgr), a necrotrophic fungal pathogen, has recently been identified as the causative ...

Nitric Oxide Tunes Secreted Metabolite Bioactivity
Pseudomonas aeruginosa produces phenazine metabolites that can react with nitric oxide (·NO) to form nitrosylated compounds. The formation of these metabolites results in rapid loss in P. aeruginosa viability and diminishes phenazine antimicrobial activity against other organisms, including Staphylococcus aureus. ABSTRACT The radical nitric oxide (·NO)
