Utilizing novel Escherichia coli-specific conserved signature proteins for enhanced monitoring of recreational water quality. [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiologyopen
This paper explores the application of a novel DNA sequence type, specifically conserved signature genes encoding conserved signature proteins (CSPs), for bacterial identification. Although our focus is on the identification of Escherichia coli, the same principle can be extended to identify other taxa using their respective CSPs.

A new application of avocado oil to enrich the biological activities of polycaprolactone membranes for tissue engineering. [PDF]

open access: yesBiopolymers
Abstract The metabolites synthesized by plants to protect themselves serves as natural antimicrobial agents used in biomaterials. In this study, avocado oil (AO), was incorporated as a plant source and natural antimicrobial agent into polycaprolactone (PCL) membranes. The effects of varying AO ratios (25, 50, and 100 wt%.—PCL@25AO, PCL@50AO, PCL@100AO)

Separate Gut Plasma Cell Populations Produce Auto‐Antibodies against Transglutaminase 2 and Transglutaminase 3 in Dermatitis Herpetiformis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 10, Issue 25, September 5, 2023., 2023
Patients with dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) make auto‐antibodies to transglutaminase 2 (TG2) and transglutaminase 3 (TG3). By assessing serum immunoglobulin A (IgA) reactivity and by generating monoclonal antibodies from duodenal plasma cells, it is demonstrated that the auto‐antibodies show no sign of TG2‐TG3 cross reactivity.

Piperacillin/tazobactam versus carbapenems in patients with severe bacterial infections: A systematic review with meta‐analysis

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 67, Issue 7, Page 853-868, August 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Piperacillin/tazobactam or meropenem are often used to treat patients with severe bacterial infections. We aimed to compare the desirable and undesirable effects of empirical and/or definitive piperacillin/tazobactam versus carbapenems in patients with severe bacterial infections.
