Metabolomics study of esophageal adenocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2011
The objective of this study was to detect and evaluate reliable metabolite markers for screening and monitoring treatment of patients with esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) by studying metabolomics. The sensitivity and specificity of the study were evaluated not only for EAC but also for Barrett esophagus and high-grade dysplasia, which are widely ...

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

Case Report and Literature Review of a Pathologic Mandibular Fracture from Metastatic Esophageal Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesCase Reports in Otolaryngology, 2018
Distant metastasis to the jaws, including the maxilla or mandible, is very rare. Although the mandible is the preferred sight of these rare metastases, it is extremely rare for oral cavity malignancies to present as pathological mandibular fractures ...

Engineered Microfluidic Organoid Systems: New Paradigms for Menopause Mechanism Research and Personalized Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review explores the integration of microfluidic technology with organoid systems as an innovative platform for studying menopausea complex multi‐organ condition. By enabling precise simulation of inter‐organ communication and hormone responses, microfluidic organoids offer a physiologically relevant model for investigating menopausal syndrome and ...

Robot-assisted minimally invasive thoraco-laparoscopic esophagectomy versus minimally invasive esophagectomy for resectable esophageal adenocarcinoma, a randomized controlled trial (ROBOT-2 trial)

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2021
Background For patients with esophageal adenocarcinoma or cancer of the gastroesophageal junction, radical esophagectomy with 2-field lymphadenectomy is the cornerstone of the multimodality treatment with curative intent.

Opportunities for Preventing Esophageal Adenocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesCancer Prevention Research, 2016
Abstract Esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) is rapidly increasing in incidence in many Western societies, requires demanding treatment, and is associated with a poor prognosis, therefore preventive measures are highly warranted. To assess the opportunities for prevention, we reviewed the available literature and identified seven main ...

ACSL5 Regulates Glucose Metabolism and Chemotherapy Sensitivity in Colorectal Cancer Cells under Glutamine Deficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glutamine deprivation triggers ACSL5 upregulation in tumor cells, sustaining their viability via dual metabolic rewiring programs. ACSL5 enhances glycolysis by relieving p53's inhibition of PGAM1 while also sustaining mitochondrial respiration and TCA cycle flux through promoting IDH2 dimerization.

Signatures within the esophageal microbiome are associated with host genetics, age, and disease

open access: yesMicrobiome, 2018
Background The esophageal microbiome has been proposed to be involved in a range of diseases including the esophageal adenocarcinoma cascade; however, little is currently known about its function and relationship to the host.

The Epidemiology of Esophageal Adenocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesGastroenterology, 2018
The incidence of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) has increased in many Western countries and is higher in men than women. Some risk factors for EAC have been identified-mainly gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett's esophagus, obesity, and tobacco smoking.
