Shear wave elastography in assessment of liver stiffness and prediction of gastro-esophageal varices in patients with liver cirrhosis

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2019
Background Shear wave elastography is an ultrasound applied technique used to measure tissue stiffness as a result of a disease. So, it can be used to evaluate liver stiffness as a result of liver cirrhosis and could correlate it with esophageal varices.

Microbubble‐Based Ultrasound Contrast Agents in Contrast‐Enhanced Ultrasonography for Managing Portal Hypertension in Cirrhosis

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
As the hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) remains the current gold standard for diagnosing portal hypertension in cirrhosis, its clinical application is limited by invasiveness, high cost, and restricted availability. Given the urgent need for noninvasive techniques to dynamically monitor portal vein pressure (PVP), contrast‐enhanced ...

Endoscopic Treatment for Esophagogastric Variceal Bleeding in Patients With Acute‐on‐Chronic Liver Failure: An Observational Study

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
In patients with acute‐on‐chronic liver failure (ACLF), esophagogastric variceal bleeding (EGVB) represents a critical complication associated with high short‐term mortality. This study evaluated the efficacy of endoscopic treatment in this specific population and identified prognostic factors associated with 6‐week rebleeding and mortality.

Comprehensive treatment of patients with gastric variceal bleeding

open access: yesМедицина неотложных состояний, 2022

A Case of Ileal Conduit Bleeding Caused by Porto‐Sinusoidal Vascular Disorder

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 60‐year‐old man presented with recurrent stomal bleeding for 3 years. He had undergone cystoprostatectomy with ileal conduit diversion for bladder cancer 7 years prior. Endoscopy revealed multiple protruding lesions (0.6–0.8 cm) inside the stoma, which were initially suspected to be ectopic varices given concomitant esophageal varices and ...

Impact of Treatment Response to Anticoagulant Therapy on Liver‐Related Events in Patients With Cirrhosis and Portal Vein Thrombosis

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
In patients with cirrhosis and a first portal vein thrombosis treated with intravenous anticoagulant therapy, the 3‐year cumulative rates of liver‐related events were 56.7% and 75.5% in the effective and ineffective groups, respectively. A good radiological response was associated with fewer liver‐related hospitalizations.

Examination of portal hemodynamics of patients with gastric varices and clinical investigation of the significance of distal splenorenal shunt

open access: yes, 1994
The portal hemodynamics of patients with gastric varices has not yet been clarified adequately and no treatment has been established. Distal splenorenal shunt was placed in thirty-two patients with gastric varices and by comparing with those with ...

Prevalence, classification and natural history of gastric varices: a long-term follow-up study in 568 portal hypertension patients

open access: yes, 1992
To determine the prevalence and natural history of gastric varices, we prospectively studied 568 patients (393 bleeders and 175 nonbleeders) with portal hypertension (cirrhosis in 301 patients, noncirrhotic portal fibrosis in 115 patients, extrahepatic ...
