Depth and Procedure Specific Effects of Antimicrobial Versus Conventional Sutures on Surgical Site Infection: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial sutures may be particularly beneficial in colorectal and abdominal procedures, where reductions in deep SSI may offset the additional suture cost. Several studies also reported favorable wound‐healing outcomes. ABSTRACT Background Surgical site infections (SSIs) are common postoperative complications that delay wound healing and increase ...

Concurrent validity and agreement of Bayley‐4, AIMS, and HINE assessments in 1‐year‐old children

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
In this cross‐sectional study of children around 1‐year‐old, the Bayley‐4 showed concurrent validity and moderate to substantial agreement with the AIMS and the HINE in both clinical and home settings. Abstract Aim To examine concurrent validity between the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, Fourth Edition (Bayley‐4) gross motor subtest ...

Concurrent hirschsprung disease and esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula in a preterm neonate

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Surgery Case Reports, 2018
We describe a preterm neonate with concomitant Hirschsprung disease (HD) and esophageal atresia (EA) with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF). This is the first report to identify the coexistence of these distinct malformations in a preterm infant. Keywords:

Videothoracoscopic management of middle esophageal diverticulum with secondary bronchoesophageal fistula: Report of a case [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Middle esophageal diverticulum is rare, but can result in bronchoesophageal fistula. Previous reports have described open surgical techniques to treat esophageal diverticula, but few have evaluated the effectiveness of a videothoracoscopy approach.

A guide to the types, structures, and multifaceted functions of matrix metalloproteinases in cancer

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) orchestrate cancer progression and metastasis through proteolytic and non‐proteolytic actions. By remodeling the tumor microenvironment, enhancing growth factor availability, and modulating cell behavior, MMPs promote proliferation, migration or invasion, and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition. Alongside extracellular

Prospective Trial of Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation of High Dominant Frequencies After Pulmonary Vein Isolation in Non‐Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation (PAD‐AF Trial): A Multicenter, Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
In persistent AF, adjunctive dominant frequency‐guided ablation after pulmonary vein isolation did not significantly improve outcomes. Limited overlap between high‐frequency sites and low‐voltage areas suggests functional–structural dissociation, while right atrial low‐voltage burden predicts recurrence.
