Esophageal striated muscle contractions in patients with Chagas' disease and idiopathic achalasia

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2002

Roux‐en‐Y Reconstruction After Esophagectomy for Postoperative Functional Complaints: A Case Series

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Functional complaints affect half of esophagectomy patients, with no standard treatment. In nine patients, Roux‐en‐Y reconstruction for obstruction, redundant conduit, and weight loss was safely performed, with one major complication and no Grade 4 out of five events. Complete symptom resolution reached 67% at 3 months and 89% at 1 year.

Endoscopic Pseudo‐dilation of Esophagogastric Junction During Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy: (With Video)

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 7, Issue 1, April 2027.
ABSTRACT Background and Aim During peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for achalasia, endoscopic esophagogastric junction (EGJ) opening is generally considered a sign of successful myotomy. However, in clinical practice, the EGJ may appear to open immediately after submucosal tunneling, even before myotomy is performed.

Impact of laparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy (LVSG) on lower esophageal sphincter pressure (LESP), lower esophageal sphincter length (LESL) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) using esophageal function tests (EFTs): A systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yes
Background: LVSG seems to increase the risk of GERD despite significant weight loss. We compared pre- and postoperative esophageal function test data (in conjunction with the BMI loss) to evaluate the impact of post-LVSG on lower esophageal sphincter ...

Clinical Utility of Anti‐reflux Mucosal Intervention for Refractory Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in Patients With a Hiatal Hernia

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 7, Issue 1, April 2027.
Abstract Background Surgical fundoplication is the standard treatment for refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) with large (≥3 cm) hiatal hernias; however, its invasiveness is problematic in older adults and high‐risk patients. Anti‐reflux mucosal intervention (ARMI) is a less invasive endoscopic alternative; however, patients with large ...
