Hollow wire corrosion of stainless steel ropes in a marine mooring system and its relation to microstructure

Hollow wire corrosion of stainless steel ropes from mooring installations applied in seawater is introduced. Martensite distribution in the austenite and crystallographic texture resulting from the production technology of the cold‐drawn wires are identified as decisive for this kind of corrosion.
