Artificial Neural Networks for Defining the Operational Parameters of Sand Filters for Irrigation
ABSTRACT The difficulty in defining the working configuration during the operation of sand filters arises from the complexity of the relationships among the variables in the filtration and backwashing processes. The objective was to use artificial neural networks to model the pressure loss and removal efficiency of filtration in a commercial sand ...

Peasants into Muslims: Poverty and conversions to Islam in Ottoman Bosnia
Abstract Whilst economic historians have invested substantial effort into understanding the economic consequences of religion, they have invested less effort into understanding the determinants of religious affiliation. The lack of knowledge about determinants of religious affiliation seems particularly striking in the case of Southeastern Europe ...

ABSTRACT Introduction Poor glycaemic control, indicated by a haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) level of 7% or higher, increases the risk of active tuberculosis (TB) in patients with diabetes, while active TB can worsen glucose tolerance and insulin resistance, contributing to type‐2 diabetes mellitus (DM) progression.

Entropy Export and Chemical Reactions in Plasmas
In a non‐equilibrium plasma, energy is transferred to molecules by electron‐impact (1), collisions among excited molecules (2), and Joule heating (3). The entropy balance for this open system relates the energy available per molecule to changes in entropy, which determines plasma‐based gas conversion. ABSTRACT Is plasma truly a “fourth state of matter”?

A precision trial case study for heterogeneous treatment effects in obstructive sleep apnea
Abstract Precision medicine tailors treatments to individual patient characteristics, which is especially valuable for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), where treatment responses vary widely. Traditional trials often overlook subgroup differences, leading to suboptimal recommendations.
