Essential transition metal homeostasis in plants

Current Opinion in Plant Biology, 2009
The homeostasis of the essential transition metals copper, iron, manganese and zinc requires balanced activities of transporters that mediate import into the cell, distribution to organelles and export from the cell. Transcriptional control is important for the regulation of cellular homeostasis.

The essential metals and their evolution

1980
Living organisms have many different requirements for metals. Some are for small amounts of an ion bound in a specialized site, while others are for ‘bulk’ quantities in solution, at millimolar or greater concentrations. In this chapter we shall start by looking at these requirements, and then consider how they may reflect the course of early ...

Plant Regulation of Essential and Non-Essential Heavy Metals

The Journal of Applied Ecology, 1979
SUMMARY (1) Vegetation and soils were sampled along two traverses near Mineral, Virginia (U.S.A.), and analysed for concentrations of Cu, Zn, Ag, Cd and Pb. The concentrations of Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb in plants were lowest in leaves; concentrations of Cd and Pb increased with age of twigs. Quercus alba L.

Oxygen, oxidases, and the essential trace metals

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. B, Biological Sciences, 1981
Abstract The dominant function of dioxygen as the terminal electron acceptor in aerobic systems is well established; the roles of iron and copper in the terminal oxidases are less well understood. The minor, but crucial, part that dioxygen plays in other biological processes has recently attracted much attention.

Essentiality and Toxicity of Heavy Metals

1983
The problem of heavy metals in infant formulae is much more important than it is in foods for the adult. The tolerance of the newborn and infant to environmental toxicants is not well known; therefore it is prudent to assume that the very young may be more susceptible to toxic agents than the adult.

LEVELS OF ESSENTIAL AND NON-ESSENTIAL METALS IN ETHIOPIAN OUZO

2012
The levels of selected metals (Na, Ca, Mg, Fe, Zn, Mn, Cr, Co, Cu, Ni, Cd and Pb) in five different brands (Kokeb, National, Liyu Addis, Victoria and Balezaf) of Ethiopian ouzo sampled from different supermarkets in the capital city Addis Ababa were determined. 10 mL of ouzo samples were digested by using 2 mL of HNO3 and 5 mL of H2O2 for 90 minutes at
